Not for nothing were the last two Oscars The Artist and Argo off with the prize

If Hollywood is fond of something, then it is his own history. Not for nothing were the last two Oscars The Artist and Argo off with the prize. But besides these productions large and influential events, there appears to be a clear need to elaborate on the development of individual films. As recently demonstrated Hitchcock and My Week with Marilyn all a glimpse behind the scenes of Psycho and The Prince and the Showgirl and do Saving Mr. Banks now the same for the Disney classic Mary Poppins . Filmed this look in the kitchen is also a Disney production, tunes skeptical (the studio is indeed not averse shameless self promotion), but the result is surprisingly crisp and sharp.

The opening scene of Saving Mr. Banks will viewers without resorting to insider rather tricky. Outdoor picture children's author PL Travers a telephone conversation with someone we do not hear. She speaks regularly about ?? he ?? and ?? it ?? without the viewer to give any hint about where she got it. ??He?? no one shows less than Walt Disney, which at that time (the early sixties) is one of the most powerful people in Hollywood. ?? It ?? refers to Travers ?? creation Mary Poppins, which Disney has put his sights. Travers is totally not waiting for a saccharine Disney film adaptation of her work, but after years have kept the boat, she looks to forced anyway tack. Cross the line drawn by the promise that it is no animation (cartoon ?? or ?? as Travers calls them contemptuously) and participation in the script, the temperamental British writer departs reluctantly to Hollywood.

Once there is immediately apparent that Disney and Travers like night and day different. Or rather, as sun and rain. The sunny weather in California can not appeal Travers namely; she prefers the British rain. Not surprising therefore that the frantic efforts of Disney and his staff to put Travers in the sun, have a totally opposite effect. Of the "Walt Disney presents'-sign with the name of the author below which they will be welcomed at the airport until its full gedisneyficeerde hotel room; everything just leads to irritation. Fortunately not at the viewer, because these scenes go for the laugh and succeed very well in there. Incidentally, Travers ?? saying that rain makes life delicious answered soberly by her frumpy driver with the objection that the sun has the same effect.

The fascinating contrast between the two main characters is one of the greatest qualities of the film, especially because no party is elected. Disney and Travers his contemporaries and to some extent united by their work (which focuses on the same target group), but it seems both to be passed in a completely opposite direction suggested. So Disney can clearly not be colorful and child friendly enough, while Travers convulsively clings to her job and not give an inch admits in the script process. That makes it particularly difficult aunt to work with, but there appear to be entirely understandable reasons for its protective nature. The key is for both of them in a mixture of authorship and parenthood. Disney namely says that his films (and Mary Poppins makes in particular) to please his own children. Travers, however, is unmarried and childless, but sees her characters and her family.

By far the strongest aspect of Saving Mr. Banks is the casting. Tom Hanks in the role of Walt Disney is clearly a golden opportunity, but the absolute star is Emma Thompson in her Oscar-worthy rendition of PL Travers. Neurotic, eccentric, undisturbed but also hugely vulnerable; Thompson switches effortlessly from one trait to another without her character to make a typetje. Special enough her grades are mainly subscribed when are heard the shots during the credits of the real script consultation. Then actually turns out that Thompson has taken its role lot more human and more subdued than they had to do actually.

To Saving Mr. Banks to follow is not necessary Mary Poppins to have seen, but to really enjoy it, it is advisable. Partly because of the recognition of the songs and named plot points, second because it stood extended by Travers ?? tough childhood in Australia. In addition to all kinds of elements from her later work shows the sources of inspiration, which will be a feast of recognition for attentive viewers. In terms of tone these scenes are much more melancholy than the Hollywood segments dominated by light humor, but it turns out fine contrast to fit in a movie with ditto protagonists. Saving Mr. Banks is simply a film with a smile and a tear. Or a raindrop actually a ray of sunlight.

When I say that I travel eat the sweetest in the street with a great food stall i still get quite often

When I say that I travel eat the sweetest in the street with a great food stall i still get quite often 'huh' and 'wats ?!' to hear :-). That surprised me actually, because here we still eat French fries in the car Piet? Ok, hygiene is of course a lot better, but if you just pay attention to some issues, you can just eat the most delicious dishes in the street. And often really authentic! I always choose my food stall on the basis of the following things. Maybe you have something there.

Is there pressure?

As simple as that, but often the best indicator of a "good" food stall: many people. If it's busy and you have to wait, this is often a good sign. Not only because people eat then apparently enjoy it, but because you're so pretty sure the throughput is high. And so is your beef teriyaki probably not for a couple of hours in the burning sun :-) .

The location.

Also, an important one. You have a lot of food stalls that literally stand next to an open sewer or where the mice have a party in the adjacent bins. How busy 't there is, I walk anyway just around the block. You should never think that splashing sewage gets into your sandwich, tenon. So watch always at the location!

Vegetarian.

Well, this is a personal thing, but personally I would never eat meat or fish at a food stall. Now I eat anyway traveling almost completely vegetarian (unless I once past the Mac come, what then suddenly su-per-leak-ker :-) ), but my friend for example, just eat it all. However, I would at a food stall faster for something vegan-ish. They still often have no cooling and then is your steak out there. Maybe for hours. My tip is: delicious vegetarian food stall in a thick fine!

The people.

It certainly does not say anything, but check the people that are in 's food stall. Seem like nose toddler income, not so fresh people? Fat chance that They therefore do not comply with your dinner plate. There is a difference between dirty and filthy; many people who have a food stall, are not exactly wide and will therefore not shining clean nails. But that is different really filthy practices

Last week there was a program on Discovery about Ethiopia. About how beautiful and special this is what forgotten country. 2 years ago we made a trip to Ethiopia and then we were always the question: Why ?! Well. It just seemed to us a nice destination :-) . And that was it too! I can well imagine that Ethiopia is not your first choice if you are looking for a destination in Africa, but if you love beautiful scenery, gift treks, culture and a low budget, I would really consider Ethiopia. Maybe I convince you with this:

 Ethiopia pearl 1

Landscapes.
Well, they have in Ethiopia. Endless, wild and even surprisingly green. My image of Ethiopia was mainly that of a very dry and superarm country. Now both hold true, but it does not give a fair picture of the amazing landscapes that you'll find. Especially the Simien Mountains is more than worth it! You can also find native Galada baboons, where you can stand serious a few meters away. And you can make this wonderfull multi-day treks for little money. Really do!

 Ethiopia pearl 2

Lovely people.
However, a very important part of a tour, I think: the locals. The Ethiopian population is welcoming and super friendly. Precisely because there are not many tourists, they appreciate it even more if you travel to their country. And that brings you guaranteed to bandied koffie'tjes up a tasty sour injera pancake :-) or just a nice chat with a family.

 Ethiopia pearl 3

Culture and religion.
Ethiopia is a very big country so we really only saw the northern half. That's right on the African part; no strains or nature believe this, but Orthodox Christians. Yes, you read that right. Ethiopia is  originally Christian and that you notice about this. You will find the most beautiful churches carved into the mountains. Many people walk in traditional white robes with a bible in his hand. Truly a special sight!

 Ethiopia pearl 4

Transportation is top notch.
You would 't expect but public transport in Ethiopia is really thick fine. Of course go above the timetables do with an African joke :-) , but the buses are really fine. Also drive a lot, more comfortable mini-buses between larger towns. And it's all free!

In short, there are plenty of reasons to go to Ethiopia. Beautiful weather, beautiful scenery, authentic and lovely people. The only downside really is the food :-) . That's not really to write home about and pretty one-sided. Anyway, that's the only. Fly you directly from Amsterdam to Addis Ababa for around € 500. Return. Also not expensive anyway?

Nicaragua has truly been one of my most beautiful destinations so far

Nicaragua has truly been one of my most beautiful destinations so far. Super Green, lots of wildlife, beautiful colonial cities, beautiful deserted beaches and relatively few tourists. I would be super happy one more time to go back :-) . Although I have nothing really disliked Nicaragua is one place that is at the top spot with Boca de Sabalos on the Rio San Juan in the South, of the country. There are relatively few people, because it simply is not on the route. In fact it is only on the radar if you're coming in from Costa Rica in the South Nicaragua. And even then you have to have something to talk about ... Boca de Sabalos is in fact only accessible by boat; the fastest does as yet have a tight hour. But believe me, it is so worth it!

Boca 1

Sleep with Yaro.
Outside Boca de Sabalos Sabalos Lodge is located; more than a great place to sleep, relax and just enjoy the river life. Owner Yaro is a codger :-) , but he bends over backwards to give you the time of your life. The lodge consists of about 10 houses on stilts, almost all along the river. Everything inside is made of stuff from nature. Fantastic! You pay about $ 60 per night for a double including 3x dinner daily. Bit more expensive than I would normally choose, but Sabalos Lodge is worth it.

Boca 2

Pull in Indio Maiz Reserve.

A boat ride of 30 minutes from Sabalos Lodge is removed Indio Maiz Reserve; a small, dense and unique piece of rainforest. Do not expect large animals or anything, but you can spot many beautiful birds, frogs and salamanders. And here 's just going to the trek itself. Yaro can arrange an English-speaking guide for you. And tip: pull rain boots, you really drowning in the mud. Yaro has them in all shapes and sizes :-).

Visit to El Castillo.
15 minutes by boat lies the village of El Castillo; Named after the massive fortress high on a hill. The fort is worth visiting just because you have a super nice view over the Rio San Juan. However, the village itself is the real highlight. The colored houses, muddy trails and food smells you really feel like you're in an authentic village. Super nice to walk around a morning and then nibble on tasty on the river rivershrimps for lunch :-) .

Boca 3

Canoeing.
I have no picture of fear of the water, but you can leave a little place on the river by Yaro and his men. Then you bag a canoe back down to Sabalos Lodge. They are really small canoes and the flow can sometimes viciously, so'll do it but not if you do not mind a bit exciting.

Touch wood! But seriously; not suffer injuries, I am always good in my rhythm and even my still hated what interval training run smoothly. Totally fine so so. I'm glad I did say buy new shoes. If I train inside I now use my previous pair and then feel the only difference. He-le-fold stretched and support of charge. Every opportunity I so nice bump from the marathon to keep as much as possible, I did things agreed with myself :-) .

1. Stick to the schedule. If half autistic I obediently follow my schedule. And I mean really brave. I'm doing exactly what I should do on Monday, on schedule and move it then do not go to Tuesday if I do not feel. Must be some kind of superstition, but I just think you have to deviate from your schedule faster the draft gets in there. And we must not, of course :-) .

2. Plans around the workouts . I'm quite a busy guy, not a silent seater. But the training also ask some more time, I plan my other appointments around these courses. Not that I was no longer comfortable shorts do, but only as it suits my training that week. Is better for me.

3 .Doordeweeks NO alcohol. Ok, this sounds like I'm half drunk. Is not so :-) but a glass of wine once in a while I find back panel nice yes. And when we eat pasta during the week, there should be a glass by frequently. Although I've never further bother, I have decided to reduce this and only on weekends to drink a glass. Sin if I getrain it again half to not do by drinking wines right?

4 .Rust, rest, rest.  Hmm, I'm not so good at. Yet I read about all the rest almost the most important part of a marathon preparation. Your body should also get time in between to repair and therefore your appearance occasionally example may also be able to skip a (shorter) training. That 1-2-3'm so not going to, but I try to regularly get some rest.

5. As much as possible running out.  Outdoor running is still where you 'end up doing for, right? I think this season itself ideally to train outside, so long it is not snowing at least. I'm really super slow temperatures above 18 ° C, so give me a nice vrieskou'tje. The interval workouts after I almost always walk outside.

On 14 February we organize all kinds of festivals traditionally in Scotland

I love Italy. If I had to choose one country in Europe would be without a doubt Italy. The food, the people, the great scenery and charming villages; I love it :-) ! Especially the more authentic South I can recommend and certainly Sicily. Maybe it's not a destination where you intend to 1-2-3 in Italy, but it is really worth considering. Here, five reasons why you should consider Sicily as a summer destination:

 Sicily reason etna

1. The queen of European volcanoes. I wrote once before a blog post on Etna; the majestic volcano that towers over Sicily. I must admit that I even have a fascination with volcanoes. No idea which, but if there's journey to climb a volcano, I stand to :-) . Etna is admittedly not spectacular in the sense of lava or so, but the scenery around it is all the more. It's like a lunar landscape; pitch black, huge rocks and no visible plant. The climb is pretty tough, but very much worth. Rightly one of the highlights of Sicily for me.

2. Beautiful beaches. You will not find a pearl white sandy beaches with swaying palm trees in Sicily, but the beaches are not any less. Over all are nice, small bays where jagged rocks suddenly the blue water walking. I like that there. Nice is that you can camp on the beach. Delicious yet, fall asleep to the sound of the waves :-) !

 Food Sicily reason

3. Great food !!!!!! Can! If I have eaten something tasty pasta and pizzas, it's ever been in Sicily. And those prices, you laugh you rot. For € 4-5 you have a big, brick oven baked pizzas are on your plate, you'll eat until the last crumb :-) . Seriously, who Sicilians know what is really good and tasty food!

4. Authentic. I found Sicily very authentic to do. Of course, to find there are plenty of tourists and the island is there too perfectly well, but it is not at the expense of authenticity. Especially if you just inland from Sicily to go, you will find hidden villages where an atmosphere hangs like it has not changed over the past 20 years. Delicious!

 Sicily reason landscape

5. Alternating landscape. I found the landscapes in Sicily very diverse. In 't interior is mountainous and very dry at times. While jumping the green you respond to the coast and the prettiest behind nicer bays are hidden. Towns like Cefalú and Taormina are also very worthwhile.

If you know me a little, you know I'm not as sweet. Romantic movies and teddy bears with heart are not for me :-). Of course I'm not afraid of a sweet card or a nice surprise, but it all needs from me not so sweet. My friend is actually more romantic than I now think of it. I have nothing to do with Valentine's Day. By chance we go this year 14 the to a concert Birdy Paradiso, but that is indeed pure coincidence. I wondered how it actually Valentine's Day is in other countries? Word 't there too celebrated and if so, how? I put some special countries and traditions for you at a glance.

Chocolates in South Korea.
On February 14, giving women in South Korea chocolates to men, which the men on March 14 again give another candy for the ladies. And now comes' t: the unfortunates who have not had chocolate, go on April 14 to eat to eliminate black noodles. Huh? Very special :-) .

Alternative day in Brazil.
Brazilian Valentine's Day is a bit later celebrated on June 12. The reason is purely practical; February 14 often falls in the middle of the Brazilian carnival. Not so convenient with all the carnival fans there.

Dating in Scotland.
On 14 February we organize all kinds of festivals traditionally in Scotland. If you already have a partner, it 's not supposed to connect, but singles are welcome. You can change your name to write a note, which then goes into a big tank with hundreds of other notes of bachelors. Then everyone pulls a note and you are connected to your Valentine Date. Well.

Roses in Taiwan.
In Taiwan, they also celebrate Valentine's Day and immediately big time :-) . With great many roses! The number of roses seems to say something about how you look at your partner. One means that you consider your partner as the only true love of your life, 99 rose represents eternal love and with 100 pieces you ask someone to marry you. Hm, I don 't get distinction at all, but good.
