The way of food and feed as we teach our children will affect their health and well-being for the rest of their lives

Last year we ate Dutch for the fifth year in a row less meat. Per person consumption dropped to an average of 75.4 kilos. That equates to almost one whole kilo less compared to the previous year, according to a study by the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (LEI), part of Wageningen University.

The study was commissioned by animal welfare organization Wakker Dier. Said meat weight of meat, including bones. Roughly half of that is actually consumed.

The decrease is due mainly Dutch eat fewer pigs and cows. The consumption of chicken, veal, goat / sheep and horse remained the same.

Awake animal still not satisfied

Although the action group is happy with the decrease, it still is not fast enough. ,, We still eat about 45 percent more than the Nutrition Centre advises. At the expense of millions of animals who lead a miserable life in the cattle industry, "says Wakker Dier. Also to combat climate change would have to be eaten less meat according to the organization.

,, It is in all our interests that we eat less meat and therefore it is absurd that our supermarkets continue to flood with meat complaints and that the government does not take action, "says Wakker Dier.

According to the organization the consumer choose more often for organic meat. The animal friendly 'Better Life' meat is strongly on the rise.

How often do you eat meat? And what do you think of organic meat?
