It is a very rugged and inaccessible area with sharp ridges and wild rivers

Ever heard of Kham or Khampas? Kham is the name of a region in eastern Tibet. It is a very rugged and inaccessible area with sharp ridges and wild rivers. Formerly 't was only partially controlled by the government in Lhasa. Khampa are the original inhabitants of this area. They are also known as wild and rough and are sometimes regarded as the unofficial army of Tibet. If you come across them while traveling through Tibet, you know what I mean ;-)!

Respect.

Yet they have a lot of respect in Tibet itself; which is mainly due to the role that the Khampa have played earlier. When China invaded Tibet in 1950 was the Khampa that resisted and the Chinese army managed to hold on for a while in the mountains. Today it is still the Khampa that resolving conflicts and appease problems. From there are so truly local heroes! You can Khampas moreover recognized by the ribbon of red lines that they wear a turban. A particularly another fact is that a woman who marries a Khampa, automatically marries his brother :-). Yep. It stays in the family! When a Khampa is killed, is the unspoken agreement that it also takes on the care of his children.

The picture.

In the picture you see the rugged landscape of eastern Tibet. A remote place with few people and even fewer tourists. We stood at the foot of a mountain, and suddenly out of nowhere came this Khampa riding on his horse. I think it has become a beautiful picture because almost painting-like reproach. Have you ever been to Tibet?

I love Italy! As a child I've entertained many summers at camp in Italy and later remained one of my favorite European destinations. A few years ago I discovered for the first time Sicily. Oh my, what a wonderful island that is! We then had unfortunately only a week's time, but we have done a very cool road trip that week. I am in any case definitely going back! If you are planning to go this summer, I can really recommend a road trip to Sicily. This is the route I did.

Fly.

We flew directly from Maastricht to Trapani with Ryanair. I live not exactly close to Maastricht :-), but since this flight we literally only cost € 30 per person return (!), We thought it was just the trouble to travel to Maastricht. Ryan Air you have to always be careful with luggage; you can only take a certain size cabin and if you like going to run the counter anymore. As we went anyway for a week was a small suitcase as carry fine.

Roadtrip Sicily car

Road Trip.

Trapani we rented the smallest car model at the airport: a Fiat Panda 'was t 8). From Trapani was our first stop in Cefalu ; The route to this little town is very beautiful and partially follows the beautiful North coast of Sicily. Cefalu itself is not very exciting; just a nice, older seaside town where you fan-tas-tic pastes can eat :-). The area is also very beautiful, beautiful hilly and green.

 Roadtrip Sicily Etna

From Cefalu we went towards the Etna . For me one of the highlights of Sicily. Of course it is touristy, but I would climb to the top certainly not skip. You walk into a kind of black moonscape with endless views. Keep in mind that 's can be quite chilly Mount Etna and you need a bit of condition for the climb to the top.

 Roadtrip Sicily Cefalu

From Etna, we made a trip along the coast, where we include the Mediterranean Taormina and Syracuse have done. Lovely to walk to really celebrate holidays, the promenade and 'enjoy the evening sunset. Then we are using all kinds of inner roads to Sant 'Angelo Muxaro driven. You probably will not say anything ;-). It was also a bit of a gamble. I had read about this ancient village in Columbus Magazine and saw the pictures are so cool looking! Sant 'Angelo Muxaro is located on a sort of table mountain in the middle of the dry interior of Sicily. So beautiful! I would definitely detour for driving! Then it was time to go back to Trapani and we finally flew back home. All in all I'd definitely still some stayed longer in Sicily, but it's me cases, you still can see in a week. Especially since we had a car!

I happen to be the only destination tick off yet on my bucket list was last October: India , which nevertheless also one of the most extraordinary

Phew! What a question. I find it very difficult to choose one travel time. Very honest? All the trips I made seemed to fit exactly at that moment at that time. Now this sounds very floaty, but I'm actually trying to say that each trip did have a unique moment. So I went to a year in 2007. Australia and New Zealand have been, and I dived there - which I found very weird because I suddenly discovered a whole new world, one that I did not know. In New Zealand, I have about 80 wild dolphins swimming in Kaikoura - a special experience (read: dream girl). But also I can enjoy close to home. In France with my friend: a tent, two-burner stove and morning with my messy hair tent are burned out and relax with a cup of coffee in my camping chair. Kneuterig huh?

 Babette Australia

Just do 5 things could take on a journey, what would it be?

With exactly one stand my running shoes. Actually, my boyfriend are one: but Tim is not "what" but "who." ;-) Running is besides traveling a passion. For me it is a hobby, sport and relaxation in one. More .. Camera - to share home, and this (as I do with every trip) to put in a book all things. Memory Jar (a habit I have. I write all beautiful, happy moments on a note that I stop in a pot, to return after a long time on its head to relive all the good times).

What do you 's most fun to travel?

Those breathtaking moments that you think 'better than this it is not. " It could be something as simple as waking up with a cup of coffee, no stress, with the sun in my face. But above all the conversations I (like to) aanga with people from different cultures and especially the feeling at that moment. Which I know some encounters that friendships are sealed for life. Well I must say that while traveling is my passion - but it is worth nothing if I can not share it. reminisce (remember ..) and doubly enjoy a moment I can only really when I have someone to share it with. Therefore I am, after a lot of traveling circus (Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, the UK, most of Europe, India and America) glad I finally graduate and next year my friend can make a nice trip.

Which three places at the top of your bucket list and why?

I happen to be the only destination tick off yet on my bucket list was last October: India , which nevertheless also one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life has been so far. Actually, I have not thought about a new destination. I really want to see everything, especially the non-touristy side of each country. Travel with nomads in Mongolia on horseback seems unwise cool. Perhaps in first follow a riding lesson ..

What are your tips for other backpackers?

A plan is a no go - in fact .. a schedule throws the best plans in the water. Meet, talk to people. Decide á la minute and enjoy - enter all your beautiful moments. J

At this time I focus here on strength training. Because it here lie some more during the intensive training for the marathon. Apart from the standard squat, push-ups and planks, I get a lot of inspiration from the work-out videos of Doutzen Kroes. Really recommended! Meanwhile, I started again running and that is surely the most fun I think. But yes, now I am surely looking for a new purpose. Something to work toward. With strength fails me enough ...

Running targets.

What new purpose has become? I'm not sure yet. My friend does to trail runs. You know, run through the woods or on some adventurous terrain. For me, completely new, but precisely because it seemed fun to hook up with the Veluwe Trail Run. There's a 27 km distance in which I train without even think it should be. Unfortunately I can not get more ticket: - . So now I still consider but for the other major marathon to go in the Netherlands: Amsterdam Marathon in October. I sleep there just a few nights on.

After the obligatory thank yous and speeches began the Dalai Lama soon with his lecture on compassion and ethics in a secular world

Yesterday it was finally so far: I was going to meet the Dalai Lama :-). Last year we ran him just miss during a visit to Dharamsala, but that would now not happen to me! Ok, I had been one of the more than 10,000 people so of course real "meeting" had not been yet. It was in one word FAN-TAS-TIC !! I'm still smiling now :-).

How it started.

We were only at midday reading of the present Dalai Lama. That started at half past two, but of course we were there way too early. I do not come in too late ;-). Eventually we also need time. Try 10,000 excited people get on time at their place! We were not super close as you'll see in the picture, but still we could see everything just fine. Around a quarter to two the Dalai Lama came on stage. Accompanied by his own people and New BFF Erica Terpstra ;-). Very crazy, but so I immediately noticed that I was a kind of emotional. I'm not a crybaby, but it hit me anyway. This particular wise man who symbolizes the struggle of the Tibetan people and himself has made such a special way. I do not know, it just did something really me.

 Dalai Lama 3

The lecture.

After the obligatory thank yous and speeches began the Dalai Lama soon with his lecture on compassion and ethics in a secular world. Yes Yes. Not an easy cost I can tell, but fortunately his lecture was interspersed with questions from fans and questions from the audience. That was actually the most fun; who is the man behind the Dalai Lama and what he really likes the conflict with China? Of course, you get no real answer to this in an afternoon, but it was very nice to see the Dalai Lama playing impromptu questions. I really enjoyed!

And then.

Well. Then it was a quarter past four and was the Dalai Lama there done with it ;-). He wiggled something with his feet, began his belongings to pack all together and gestured angrily "Next question, please quicker. May sound little Buddhist, but hey, the man is 79 years, talks about an intense subject, in a language that is not his. I find it quite a bit. After a final conversation, we were met with a full head of Ahoy. We also caught a glimpse of the Dalai Lama was bonjoured in a car through the rear entrance. My mother and I were like a bunch of groupies to swing at the gate 8-). Grab your still beautiful moment with! All in all it was a really special afternoon. I'm really glad we went and have to process a lot of impressions ;-).

I'm not a city person. I'll have a nice, small and authentic village surrounded by nature ;-). Jerusalem, however, I like to make an exception! What I think say a cool city. During our trip through Israel and the Palestinian territories, we stayed four full days in Jerusalem. There's just so much to see and do! And I'd still like another week to go. The only disadvantage is that Jerusalem is not exactly cheap. They are not really Western prices, but still a long way around. I put five free trips in Jerusalem for you at a glance.

 Jerusalem free getaway 2

1.The old city on foot.

Jerusalem is big. Really big. But the old town is by far the most rewarding and also very good walkable. As long as the course is drawing not, it is ideal for exploring on foot the old town. And it costs you nothing :-). I found it already lovely to just wander through the old streets and alleys, with no specific purpose. But there are many buildings and places that you can visit, also mostly free. Think of the Wailing Wall, the Dome of the Rock, the church where Jesus was crucified according to tradition and the various ethnic neighborhoods. Tip of the Dome of the Rock and El Aqsa Mosque: try's to stand in the morning before 6am in line. Then you have a chance that you can at around 9pm ... Seriously!

2. Visit the Holocaust Museum.

Very worthwhile. And what I'm concerned anyway a must see if you are traveling through Israel. I'm not a museum type, but what I found it impressive! Yad Vashem, as the museum is called in Hebrew, you'll find absolutely everything about Jewish life, World War II and beyond. It is done in a 'nice', respectful manner in a particular building. Admission is free.

3. Strolling about Mahane Yehuda.

I love local markets in other countries. All those indigenous herbs, dishes and crazy-looking fruit; delicious! Right in the newer center of Jerusalem you will find Mahane Yehuda; a huge indoor market with truly the most colorful products. Herbal teas and hundreds of small eateries serving super tasty fresh fish. You can calm an hour or so walking around. you can cost anything :-). But yes, the chances that you are going to spend money is of course again pretty big ...

 Jerusalem free getaway 3

4. Look in the Orthodox world.

While you see it everywhere Orthodox Jews in Jerusalem run, the inhabitants of Jerusalem are a colorful mix of different people and beliefs. How different is the situation in the neighborhood of Mea Shearim ! This very orthodox Jewish district is within walking distance of downtown and you are seriously feeling of having landed in a living museum. Women are completely dressed in black cloth including their hair and walk with their 10 children obediently behind their husbands. In some parts of Mea Shearim, it is not even allowed as husband and wife walking on the same side! I would really an afternoon to pull out anyway. There's another, somewhat bizarre atmosphere and gives you a glimpse into the real Jewish Orthodox world. Tip: do not take pictures or at least not too conspicuous and run like bunch not go hand in hand. They are not happy with it ;-).

5. Follow the Bible on the Mount of Olives.

Whether you are religious or not, a visit to the Mount of Olives really belongs. There are a number of impressive churches, you have a beautiful view of Jerusalem and you can see the gardens of Gethsemane; you know, to find the place where Jesus and his disciples were regularly. Here are even olive trees older than 2,000 years. Surely a crazy idea, do not you think? Even if you do not have a lot further along, it's still worth a visit. And again, for free.

Traveling and backpacking in a special way are of course delicious

Traveling and backpacking in a special way are of course delicious. As soon as I can get my backpack, you will not hear me complain :-)! But there are traveling or things you like backpacker encounter. Everything is simply not as smooth controlled. made schedule? The anticipation fun, but eventually you did fix a very different route. The same applies to planned trip days and buses suddenly found not to drive. As a backpacker you should in any case can be quite flexible ;-)! And though: sometimes I just have a moment of ... the bales When?

If a hostel is not really a hostel.

A hostel is supposed to be responding to the needs of backpackers right? That is, after all, most of their audience. A luxurious, large room is not one then, but I am thinking to do laundry, books to exchange, local guides can be arranged, computers or Wi-Fi; that kind of work. Just convenient, practical things you do as a backpacker needs. But yes, sometimes you end up in a hostel literally just offering a place to sleep. Well. And then just when you do not have a clean shirt about whether you need to find something on the Internet. I get anoyed: - .

If I wannabe backpacker to come.

I am also not so much. Especially in Southeast Asia, you see whole groups of backpackers take parts of a city or town over. Apart from that I love anyway not very tourist spots, I quickly finished a group of backpackers who find themselves über cool. Do you know what I mean? Bit tof do all babbling against the local population, half torn clothes and something to smoke in hand. Deputy shame I get 8-D.

If a destination disappointing.

Well. Sometimes it happens you read something super fun way in the Lonely Planet or anyone around you are very enthusiastic about, and it is hugely against you. In itself ok, but it took me two days to get anywhere and the 3rd day it appears to be nothing, I am less happy. That's more again the way that there are often so many other things I would like to see or do, then I really irritated touch or so.

If I eat too late.

I wrote once before about my fluctuating blood sugar levels. Quite a problem traveling. Normally, I have not such a burden, because I always naturally in the Netherlands something to eat. Travelling is another story. Especially if you have a travel day that you encounter on the road just dirty tents. Well. Then 't is so dry chips or bread. At the end of the day I can be sometimes some cranky. Fortunately, my friend often fast enough ;-).

I love the mountains. I was as a child. If I had to choose between past three weeks summer holiday or a ski week, I had probably chosen for winter 8-). By now though slightly different, but mountains still have a special place in my heart. The fresh air, beautiful scenery and the feeling that you're so small, I think just fantastic! I've been in many areas with wonderfull mountains and villages ditto; in Tibet, Ethiopia and India are my most favorite mountain villages

. Bergen Nam Tso

Nam Tso in Tibet

Nam Tso itself is not really a village ;-). It is the name of the large lake located in this area. With almost 5,000 meters it is the highest salt water lake. The air is superijl and you can not move a step without stand panting like an old horse. Around Nam Tso are several small villages; often no more than a collection of metal huts heated by a large fireplace. And believe me, it gets cold here! For me, Nam Tso truly one of the most beautiful places in the mountains where I have ever been!

 mountains Gondar

Gondar in Ethiopia

Maybe you do not expect any mountains in Ethiopia, but there are so much! Indeed, located in the North one of the biggest mountain ranges in Africa: the Simien Mountains. Really super nice and very different from what you imagine in Ethiopia. Green, lush and lots of animals. To get to the Simien Mountains, the mountain town of Gondar is usually the starting point. What I found a nice place it! Large enough to offer some comfort and yet very authentic and personal. Gondar is about 2,000 meters above sea level , which gives a wonderfully pleasant temperatuurtje. Maybe not Ethiopia 1-2-3 on your bucket list, but if you want a unique, special and mountainous destination in Africa looking for Ethiopia is definitely worth considering!

 Bergen McLeod Ganj

McLeod Ganj in India

Bit silly name for a town in India, right? Perhaps more familiar Dharamsala tells you something; which is just about hangs on McLeod Ganj. The Dalai Lama lives in exile here, which you can see from the Tibetan flag with the picture. McLeod Ganj is located in the north of India at 2,000 meters altitude . It is surrounded by green mountains and mystical mist that hovers between the trees. Although it is quite often rains in McLeod Ganj it is so worth it! Anyway because of the Tibetan atmosphere I'm quite a fan of ;-), but certainly because of the beautiful location.

Especially in India, I grease before each meal and after every visit to the toilet a thick layer on my hands

The title of this message alone raises questions ;-). India and hygiene. Hm. Difficult. I have a love-hate relationship with this amazing country. Also, because of the gross. For what it may be telling dirty in India. Streets are used as garbage dumps, meat is delicious discoloring in 40 ° C and hanging over a squat toilet you have to be careful that you do not get an ammonia poisoning. Not even to mention the personal hygiene ... In short, if you have fears of contamination, India is not your destination ;-). Yet India is for me one of the most fascinating countries and I wouldn t recommend it! It's just handy to take some 'action':

Avoid anything with water.

Seriously. Do not drink tap water, do not use ice cubes in your diet, skip the raw moment over and let unpeeled fruit even stand. Water is one of the greatest sources of contamination. Rather buy individual bottles of mineral water and always check whether t, however, a new bottle. Those bastards would sometimes fill an old bottle with dirty water and sell it for bottled water. Bit timers so.

Personal hygiene.

When traveling, I actually always have a bottle desinfectiegel with me. Especially in India, I grease before each meal and after every visit to the toilet a thick layer on my hands. You are then guaranteed in any event reasonably clean hands. Especially if you have shaken hands for example, or somewhere in dirty cages are you need to do, this stuff is really indispensable. Also note stabbing in your mouth with your fingers :-). I tend to bite fingernails and would sometimes out of habit, stabbing a finger in my mouth. Not smart. Bah. Finally, I would definitely take a sheet bag with you when you go to India. The most beautiful small hotels can be found in India, but also the most nasty, dirty things. I have been several times but what was glad I could crawl into my sleeping bag liner.

Luck.

It is also just a matter of luck. During my last trip to India, I, despite everything, on any parasite home where I still had equally affected. Probably one of the cooks his hands are not washed properly ... Well. Can you further yourself doing so well; You're talking not always in their own hands.

I wonder if you have been like once in India? What did you think of it? And if you have not been yet, would you like to go or scares you off the dirt?

When I first made last year introduced to Central America I was right all the way. What a lovely part of the world! Relaxed atmosphere, rich culture, beautiful jungle, lots of wildlife and beautiful beaches. Really enjoy! Nicaragua is my favorite, just because this is still a tad less by tourism has been discovered for example neighboring Costa Rica. Nicaragua seems you something? Maybe you have something on the route we have taken.

Crossing the border by boat.

By far the most relaxed border crossing outside Europe that I have ever made it ;-). If you want to travel in Costa Rica from Nicaragua, I would definitely recommend the border crossing at Los Chiles! 2x a day goes by boat from the river village to the town of San Carlos; which in turn is located in Nicaragua. About halfway there comes a time border police on the boat and that was it! Buenvenidos Nicaragua 8-)!

 Route map Sabalos

From San Carlos we immediately took a second boat to Boca de Sabalos, on the Rio San Juan. If you choose the fast boat, you're in a tight hour. Boca de Sabalos is superbly located and very authentic. Definitely worth to stay a day or three here at Yaro's lodge , to visit the village of El Castillo and make a trek through the nearby Indio Maiz reserve. From Boca de Sabalos we took the boat back to San Carlos, from where to explore the Solentiname Islands. I wrote recently been a blog about, not recommended for me. After a short break we took the bus to Managua.

 Granada route map

City time.

The bus ride to Managua takes about 8 hours. Although the roads are very good, you have all around the great lake of Nicaragua. Hence those 8 hours. Managua's just a noisy, smelly and at times not so safe feeling capital. I would not stay too long. From Managua, we took a minibus to take you to the crazy Granada in 40 minutes. Although a big city, the lake has the atmosphere of an old colonial large village. Ultimately, we are stuck here about 4 days, super cute! From Granada you can make all kinds of day trips to eg Masaya volcano.

Nature.

From Granada we decided to go a bit to the north, where you certainly hardly come at a tourist. We took a direct bus to Estelí; the base for treks in Miraflor. In Miraflor we walked over two days, one of the highlights of our trip through Nicaragua. I definitely recommend it! And when it was unfortunately time to drop to redeem the South and Nicaragua off to Costa Rica

Laos may not be the first destination that comes to mind in Southeast Asia

Laos may not be the first destination that comes to mind in Southeast Asia. Countries like Thailand, India and Malaysia, for that matter more popular. Yet Laos is one of my favorite countries in Asia! It is less touristy than other parts, beautifully green and the people are super nice. One of the most unique travel experiences I ever done in Laos: sleeping in a treehouse :-). How cool is that ?!

Treehouse Laos

Feeling like a monkey.

In the north of Laos You can find this awesome tree houses. You sleep on as much as 30 meters high and sways from one to the other treehouse via a zipline! The project where these tree houses part of it make, called the Gibbon Experience. Not for nothing, because with a little luck you can see Gibbons from the tree where you stay. This is a species of monkey which has since been threatened, because the locals hunt these beautiful creatures. By leaving locals benefit from tourism revenue through the tree, they realize that a live gibbon is worth more than a dead one.

Zipline.

The trip takes a minimum of three days, two nights. You have to be reasonably fit to get into the area where the ziplines walk and stand the tree. But when you get there, you have some. The middle of the jungle is a whole network of landscaped ziplines. One even higher, longer or faster than the other. Nowadays there are a lot of ziplines, especially in Central America, but this is surely the best gift! Hurtles sometimes more than a hundred meters above the canopy just missed treetops. So beautiful! In the evening when it gets dark, you notice that the jungle also comes to rest. Sounds fade and give way to other sounds. In the morning you wake up with a cool breeze blowing through your hair and the sound of the many birds, frogs and cicadas. While there is still floating over the treetops patches of fog, breakfast is below hung a basket. This can then hoist yourself up :-). When you're finished, there and another day on the program where you have the whole day to explore the ziplijnen. How many lines you've had, it's still fun to do! It's not cheap, but well worth it. And moreover you support a good cause, namely, the support of local people and some wildlife projects.

Jaaaa today balloons and cake for me for my birthday :-). 31 years young. Or well, as some people think otherwise, but I make it all not matter. Every year there is to be celebrated anyway? If I'm birthday, I always tend to look back a little in the last year and actually it's been a very nice year! A year in which I travel Girl then-nal-law began :-D, several trips were on the schedule and I ran the marathon in Rotterdam. Here are some of my best moments of last year when I was 30! Travel Girl. Well. That's really the first person I have named. The idea of a blog was like so long in my mind, that finally once again had to come. After much thinking about the name of my blog, I still came every time at Travel Girl Out.

It says exactly what I am, bullied tasty and you know what the subject of my blog ;-). So I bought the domain name, took a Wordpress account, chose a design and blogging it! In one year, a lot has changed and I learned a lot. It's super fun to get all the nice comments on something I do with so much passion. So I keep it nice go through. Travel through Kashmir and Ladakh. Last September there was a wonderful trip on the schedule through Kashmir and Ladakh in northern India. And it lived up to all my expectations! It's a very different part than the usual crowded, chaotic and dirty India that you might know. In the North you will find space, fresh air, mountains and a vast Muslim and Buddhist culture. I thought it was a wonderfull trip! NYE in Israel. To close out the year, we decided to go to Israel 10 days at the last minute 8-). Although it me beforehand really appealed, I did not expect that I would find such a cool trip. Those 10 days were even too short! Jerusalem I found really more than great; all the history and culture in one city, fantastic! But the Palestinian territories and the glimpse you get to see the conflict I found very impressive. I will definitely come back. Cosiness in Lermoos.

In March, it was then time for a nice long weekend winter sports with friends. Cosy! We went to Lermoos in Austria. Near and yet the real Austrian skiing sensation. Marathon time! I wanted it for some time, but it still was not. And now it was finally so far: I started training for a real marathon. 42.2 kilometers. Ai. Yet anything other than the 15-18 kilometer that I simply enjoy walking. The road to the marathon far was sometimes tough, but I noticed ultimately bad. It takes time, but I knew that beforehand. April 13 was the big day: I was at the start of the Rotterdam Marathon, along with a friend. And I made it without walking! Secretly even tastes a little more ;-). Weekend Poland. Well, and a week later we decided we also went to visit relatives in Poland. During Easter. About 80 kilometers across the border with Germany, so that's something to do once. Something different! And now I start my 31th year of life :-)! On to many more beautiful moments, fun and above all ability to travel and short trips. And now: cake !!

Previously I camped with my parents a lot in the North of Italy and later I began to explore the South more and more

Recently I wrote an article about great Sicily, but actually I love all of Italy 8-). Previously I camped with my parents a lot in the North of Italy and later I began to explore the South more and more. Camping remains for me the best way to explore Italy. Today I put my favorite campsites in Italy for you at a glance!

 Italy Camping Toscana Village

Camping Toscana Village in Montopoli.

Toscana is in one word fantastic anyway ?! What a beautiful part of Italy, I think. Wonderfull landscapes, hilly and ancient villages where you feel you back a few centuries. In the middle of Tuscany, camping Toscana Village . The name might suggest that 's such a huge camp is complete with animation team of 8 to 8 ;-), but nothing is less true. There is sure to find a lap pool in the morning you can get sandwiches in its own shop and you can even play tennis, but otherwise you should not go to Toscana Village to be entertained. It's a fairly quiet site built on terraces. Especially if you have a place at the top, it's fantastic to be awake. And this campsite is very central to the cities of Florence, Pisa and Lucca. Ideal! It is a little on the season in which you go, but you are around € 15 per person per night lost.

Camping La Tartufaia in Ranzanico.

Super Cute camp in northern Italy, near the pretty town of Bergamo. Personally, I think this is one of the most beautiful areas of Italy, because here you have good weather and yet the coolness of the mountains. Perfect! Camping La Tartufaia located on a small lake Endine, where you can take a refreshing dip. What is also very nice, is that the owners are all nice, offering local activities. For example you can see how local cheese is made or go truffle hunting. One night here costs around € 15 per person per night.

 Italy Camping Costa Ponente

Camping Costa Ponente Cefalu .

A small, simple camping in Sicily, but as you can see on the picture: a phenomenal view! The campsite is situated directly on the sea, where different platforms are built so you wake up right beside the sea. The site has not much facilities, although there is a nice lap pool and a good restaurant with delicious wood fired pizza. What do you need more :-)? One night will cost you around € 10 per person per night.

Camping Europa Silvella in San Felice del Benaco.

Well, a camping on Lake Garda can not miss in this list. This is a site where I've been before, but there is still, and I think it's just so cool. Especially for children. With around € 25 per person per night this is a pretty expensive camping, but you also get several pools, a private beach on Lake Garda and a good animation team return. And San Felice del Benaco is a nice, pleasant town situated on Lake Garda.

6 weeks and then I'm off to Uganda on the plane !! Can not wait! I nevertheless feel :-). The more planning that begins to take shape, the more excited I become. The car that we rent is stitched about 3 weeks, the permits for the gift gorilla trek inside and the appointment for the last vaccination at the GGD is in the agenda. Delicious! Now I can slow even start watching with my stuff. All these practical things I do believe that I have enough.

But just because we're a little more relaxed this time traveling with that car, I get totally feel like there is a bit of bohemian chic to walk at 8). I have some nice items of my favorite brands I 'use' still can. Hip hip pocket. Nice thing anyway? And another handy too! When traveling I always walk with such a pouch under my clothes, but I find a super cute alternative! Anyways I am fond of the Aztec prints that you see a lot this summer; nice merry with those colors.

This bag can be found at Sacha, in my opinion one of the best shoe and bag stores in the Netherlands. Bikini time! Almost no one is very happy of shopping in a bikini right? I am well satisfied with my body, but go on bikini yacht's not the nicest 8-O. Hallelujah for webshops! I think of Esprit superfine. Not only because of the quality but because they are also a very handy tool on the website, so that you can figure out what type of bikini fits your body shape. I had not previously encountered! I think I for bikini these dots go, I love. Sandals. Ideal! Nice walk and you have them nowadays again in all sorts of fun colors. In the webshop of Invito I see are a lot of nice sandals. When traveling, I usually go for practical outdoor shoes and although nowadays are much smoother, they will never really like under a dress. So this year I'll even agree with some strappy sandals :-). Cool backpack . I'm himself very satisfied with my daypack of McKinsley, but when I backpack Nike scoffed I was right away ;-). Let's not talk about the practical side, because that's what it now not to. The bright yellow color I find super cute! As the thing remains at the price of $ 125, Blimey. Like it's so! What are your favorite items to take with you on a trip? Besides all the practical things than you know.

When we decided last year to go to Kashmir and Ladakh in northern India, frowned quite a few people around us questionable

When we decided last year to go to Kashmir and Ladakh in northern India, frowned quite a few people around us questionable. Kashmir? There's still war? And yet abuts Pakistan? Uh yeah, the latter is true, yes. And it would also sometimes be restless, but war is certainly not as a tourist and you can really fine commute. There are some places in Kashmir where the irritations between Hindus and Muslims flare up faster but as you advance well in reading it really is a fantastic region to visit. Certainly as a backpacker! We eventually combined Kashmir with Ladakh and finally came back into the real Indian from Uttar Pradesh. A wonderfull trip that gives you a very different picture of India. This is the route we followed!

 Directions North India Srin

Kashmir.

Since we unfortunately "only" three weeks had, we decided to fly on the way Kashmir instead of traveling by road. If you have time, I would choose but certainly for the road. We flew from Amsterdam directly to New Delhi in India. We had to wait a few hours and then we flew another hour north. Destination: Srinagar in Kashmir. Known for the beautiful houseboats on the idyllic Dal Lake. Srinagar is more than special. You can feel and see immediately that it's a different world, mainly Muslim and beautifully situated at the foot of the enormous mountains.

 Directions North India Lama

After three days it was time to go by car. Unfortunately it is often public transport in the region is not an option, because the roads are very rough and inhospitable. Fortunately, the prices in India is not very high, so we could, for example, $ 100 rent a car plus driver who drove us around 9 hours to Lamayuru in Ladakh.

Ladakh.
Lamayuru is almost no guide to find, but what a gem it is! It is a tiny village located right in the rugged mountains, where at least 6 months per year, stone and stone cold. You can only sleep in homestays, so you're in the middle of local life. We are two days left in Lamayuru to just get used to the altitude of 3,500 meters. From there we went on a four-day trek through the immense mountains. Spicy, but very worth it! It eventually became 2.5 days ;-), where we walked to Wanla. From Wanla we were then picked up by a van and taken to the larger town of Leh. Leh is delicious 8-). Still those beautiful location, fresh mountain air and Tibetan influences, but also fine restaurants, nice markets and terraces. Lovely to relax after! From Leh we left hippie village of Manali. In itself pretty fun, but pretty touristy and many wannabee backpackers say ;-). Not really a place for me to linger days. From Manali was finally time to go to Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj: the place where the Dalai Lama lives. Woehoe! I found it super special for there to walk around and see the place where the Tibetan government in exile lives. Did really some of it, even though we have unfortunately gone wrong as the Dalai Lama ...

 Directions North India Amrit

Recognizable India.
And then it was time to go back in the more familiar, noisy, dirty, but oh so beautiful India. From the fresh north we ended up in the clammy Amritsar, the holy city of Sikhs, as the Golden Temple is here. It was indeed a beautiful sight, but I had to back really used to the bustle and grime: - . Cool is that you can also visit the Pakistani border from Amritsar, where they have an everyday sort of ceremony to close the borders. Really recommended! From Amritsar it was still a reasonably short to Agra, famous for the Taj Mahal. Lovely to end our trip! From there you are in couple hour in New Delhi, from where we flew to Amsterdam. It was a fantastically beautiful and special trip, though I had to spend still more time in Kashmir. If you're a bit adventurous, you love mountains and do not have it as the filth of India, Kashmir & Ladakh definitely recommended!

As an animal lover is attending the annual great migration surely one of the highlights you can experience

As an animal lover is attending the annual great migration surely one of the highlights you can experience. This amazing natural spectacle takes place every year between the plains of the Masai Mara in Kenya and Serengeti in Tanzania . Approximately one and a half million wildebeest attract continuous clockwise a round in search of fresh grass. They are exactly in the right place to take advantage of the rainy season. In their wake are still hundreds of thousands of zebra, Thomson and Grant gazelles. And of course the obvious predators as lions, cheetahs and leopards. Due to the changing climate every year becomes increasingly difficult to accurately predict migration. And the intention of the Government of Tanzania to build a road from east to west, across the reserve, the migration could potentially stop completely. Therefore, do not wait too long to visit this region.

 Great Migration 2

This picture was taken during a classic crossing of the Mara River. We had our vacation there specifically planned around it, but you must surely have some luck you're there on a day when the herds actually cross the river. The wildebeests have to continue to complete their migration and to benefit from the green grass on the other side of the river. Really do not want them because they know that there is great danger while crossing the river. Many wildebeest come here also killed. They are caught by crocodiles, drowning or being trampled by the rest of the herd. But their instinct urges them to go anyway to continue. Mother nature at its best!

Travel tip. Do you want this migration is also seen in the flesh? Inquire at local lodges in Kenya or Tanzania or is already known when the wildebeest will arrive about. It is not possible to predict whether you will actually experience a river crossing, but it should happen to identify the herds. And that alone is a great experience!

Ethiopia may not be the first African destination where you think ;-). I can also imagine. I honestly do not quite remember how we got there two years ago, but regret the trip I had certainly not by this particular country. Ethiopia is a really raw, undiscovered gem. Unfortunately we only have to do the North, but as a journey can combine with the South you seem to have quite a varied trip. However ansich travel costs as a backpacker in Ethiopia quite some time, so do not be fooled by that. We have finally done over three weeks on the following route:

Until Simien.
Just to start at the beginning: we flew with KLM, thick fine so. Return ticket with one refueling stop in Khartoum cost us € 550 per person. We landed in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa. The next morning we went straight to the bus to Bahir Dar on Lake Tana. Very well located village on an idyllic lake there with all kinds of islands. Great to acclimatize quiet. From Bahir Dar, we then continued by bus to Gondar; an old, almost European city. You'll find even a small castle which was not wrong about French countryside ;-). Gondar is the starting point for hikes in the Simien Mountains. You can arrange everything; guide, transportation, tent and so on.

 Route Ethiopia Simien

Simien Mountains.
For me the highlight of our trip through Ethiopia! The Simien Mountains. We have been here four days walked along with a super cute, local guide: Eshete. We are still in contact with it :-D. We saw fantastic scenery, endless landscapes and Galada baboon; a native species of monkey so only lives in Ethiopia. Crazy animals! You sleep on the way to a kind of makeshift campsites. Really basic, but very worth it!

 Route Ethiopia Lalibela

On the way to Lalibela.
After Simien we left via Gondar to Aksum; a city which is recommended in many travel guides, but for me is not really special. We then went on quickly towards the south, to the holy city of Lalibela. A very nice village with frenzied rock churches. Amazing how they can carve these churches centuries ago in which hitting rocks! Lalibela for us was also the base point for the next multi-day trek in the area. Eventually we by food poisoning after only three days to break down, but this was definitely worth it!

Addis.
From Lalibela we traveled back to Addis Ababa. We have 2 more days spent, which viewed things, little by refueled. And then there were three weeks so over! In three weeks you can already backpacking therefore only see a small part of Ethiopia. There were certainly plenty of places we want to tackle did it, but that the time was lacking. Just sometime back so 8-).

When you think of Africa, you probably think of animals, tribal and national parks

This photo was taken in North India. We slept in the cozy house of a man who only lived most of the year. His wife and children lived in the "big" city, half a day's drive away. We were tired of the cold and walking that day and almost fell asleep to the wonderful warmth that came from the cooking of the food. Already at eight o'clock it was bedtime and we retreated to our bedroom. But first went to the toilet outside ... so ;-). Usually a hut is an end away which is built around a deep pit. So I pulled my warm clothes and went off to the toilet. And then you do one step out the door and look at the sky. There you see what you see on the picture. Fantastic!
Since we should be happy in the Netherlands when what we see stars in the sky on a cloudless night, many people think that it's a myth that you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye. Nothing is less true. Here is the evidence :-). The Milky Way is today to see the day often difficult because of light pollution. In places where to find light, so you can still see fine the Milky Way. Think populous and vast areas of mountains, steppes and deserts. Countries such as Mongolia, Russia, Tibet, northern India are ideal.

Fotografietip Do you want to put the Galaxy in the picture? Please bring a tripod and set your camera to the slowest shutter speed. If you do not have a tripod, you should also do the trick with a little creativity with a stone. Because of this you should be able to capture enough light to get what you see in this picture. The trees I briefly illuminated with a flashlight, do not do this, then keep this a lot darker. Although you do not need an SLR, you'll need a camera where you can manually control settings. So go sit on your back in the grass and enjoy a good conversation under a breathtaking starry sky!

When you think of Africa, you probably think of animals, tribal and national parks. Me too :-) . As exemplified by countries of Tanzania, Kenya or South Africa . Ethiopia is certainly not the first destination that comes to mind, while it more than worth it! Just when you prefer something a little more authentic and adventurous destinations. Why Ethiopia is worth considering? Well, do so!

 Ethiopia Simien

Wonderfull nature.
You do not expect in Ethiopia right? I thought at least that Ethiopia is 90% gort- and dry cave. Think again! Certainly runs in the North where one of the largest mountain ranges in Africa, it is a large part of the year super green. This part is called the Simien Mountains and is really so breathtakingly beautiful! You can make treks of several days on the road where you will camp surrounded by nature. A little adventurous there you have to be, but I'm sure you will not regret. Very cool!

Authentic people & culture.
It is clear that Ethiopia is not overflowing with tourists. The downside of this is that virtually nothing is arranged for tourists. Whether it comes to public transport, eateries or guides; it may be some hassle. The delicate lace Ethiopia is in its rawness feels so wonderfully pure and authentic. I just love it from, your journey is still extra special.

 Ethiopia Galeda

Gelada baboon.
In Ethiopia live a fantastic baboons native species: the gelada baboon. I think this picture speaks for itself ;-). What an imposing beast say so! In the Simien Mountains walking around there really thousands. They live in large groups and you can circle all the way at once. No fear. They do not, at some digging in the soil after. This baboon species is unique to Ethiopia, and can therefore only see there.

 Ethiopia faith

Particular form of Christianity.
I think it's always nice and interesting to see how people live in a completely different country religion. In Ethiopia, the North is the Coptic Christian tradition. You notice about all; Everyone wears a wooden cross around, you will find churches in the strangest places and the rock churches of Lalibela are a true pilgrimage for Ethiopians themselves. Special to see!

I'm not sure I've persuaded ;-), but if you find another destination in Africa, then surely even think of Ethiopia. It will not be very relaxing or traditional trip, but the country will remain in a special way in! Does it seem to you that or not at all?

We have to go to sleep the idea conceived on the Chinese wall

Sleeping mat, sleeping bag liner and pillow check. Sweater and food and drink; check. It's an hour or four and still 30 ° C and sunny in Beijing. The sun can not be seen today because of a thick layer of smog, but that should not spoil the fun. We checked into our hostel and take a taxi. A note scribbled state where we want to go. Our destination for this afternoon and tonight: the Great Wall.

Sleep on the wall.

We have to go to sleep the idea conceived on the Chinese wall. S 'Wake up to thousands of kilometers long, winding wall. Awesome right ?! After an hour we arrive at an authentic part of the wall. Here, no hordes of Chinese scampering behind their supervisor. Nor restored wall. And we quickly notice. It's a bit of climbing and scrambling, but we are progressing steadily. After walking about a half hour, and the last half hour no one came anymore, we sit down in a watchtower. The sun is already low in the sky and the sky turns red. Kilometers away is a peasant wood to burn and between the hills begin to form some fog banks. Mouse It is quiet, only the wind rustles gently past our ears. Here we are speechless, because there you are; in the middle of a huge piece of history with a fantastic view. In my mind I see are the Chinese border guards in the watchtower, peering out the window at possible oncoming Mongol hordes on horseback. Fascinating that you do now then sit yourself.

 Great Wall 2

Is this really smart?

While the sky ever redder colors and the sun fades, we prepare ourselves for the night. Very comfortable it is not, but hey, we have not come for :-). One shoots through my head that this well was such a good idea, because there was the story of an American tourist who had thought the same and which was never heard from again. Fixed an urban legend story, I think.

 Great Wall of China 3

Sometimes I think the night to hear voices and I look outside of what I see. Nothing. Probably the local farmers. That idea reassures me. Eventually we wake up early in the morning when the sun is already shining just above the horizon. We get up, brush our teeth and eat what brought sandwiches. The first person we meet is a peasant girl who is trying to sell postcards to tourists. In order to be able to enjoy a bit of rest we buy a bunch. Then we back ourselves for we are away and grinning broadly about our wonderful adventure.

I wrote earlier about how awesome Nepal is and how fond I am of this piece of Asia. In addition to the fantastically beautiful mountains, lovely people and authentic culture can a animal lover definitely get your heart in Nepal. There are several places where you can spot all kinds of animals and can make nice treks. My favorite is Bardia National Park!

Bardia National Park.
Bardia is the lesser known sister of Chitwan National Park. Most tourists opt for the latter, because Bardia less easy to reach. However, I would Bardia was why not skip! You can find a wonderfull, sometimes quite dense jungle and lots of water, so you can spot a wide variety of animals. In addition to various kinds of monkeys, elephants and rhinos, you can even see tigers. It did not work to me, but the odds seem to be quite pretty!

 Bardia 2

Homestays.
In Bardia, you can do quite affordable multi-day treks where you sleep with the locals. You sleep or literally the chickens to roost ;-) and it will certainly not be your best night, but it is the experience doubly well spent. In the village where we landed, they had almost never seen a foreigner. Awesome right ?!

 Bardia 3

Accommodation in Bardia.
On the outskirts of Bardia you have several accommodation options. I Jungle Base Camp certainly recommend the flamboyant Hukum! Hukum runs with his family this wonderfull mini lodge. The houses are all built of clay and everything inside is pretty basic. 3 times a day you can easily receive nutritious meals prepared by Nepalese Hukum women. And in the afternoon you can go swimming with his kids in the nearby stream. You really create the feeling for a while part of their family. Hukum can also help besides finding a good guide. Ask for Prem! Prem is the best 8-). He knows all about the wildlife in Bardia, speaks good English and is very helpful. Topper !!

She came quietly been trudging with her walking stick, took place at the tea house where we were to rest from a long walk and looked around a bit

This woman looks like she is 150 years old. Although they certainly will not be young, they probably still is a lot younger than you might suspect. Particularly in upland countries people often have a very weathered skin, making them look often older than they actually are. Thus, the average life expectancy in Tibet now 67 years. Looks like this woman a little older than that, but perhaps it is not so far is from. I think it is anyway wonderful to see.

She came quietly been trudging with her walking stick, took place at the tea house where we were to rest from a long walk and looked around a bit. Old people are very respected in Tibet and also always have a clear function in society. Elderly cook for example the food, clean the house and get to drive out the task assigned birds of sown fields ;-). When elderly people reach a certain age they do not work in the country. The children are expected to take over this task. Parents can then go a little more to enjoy life. Indeed, precisely why we have a pension 8-). Western 'beauty' On seeing this woman I can not help it there to think how far we have gone too far in the West. The idea that wrinkles would be ugly for example. Or why let spraying our lips, taking her implants or our teeth bleached. No agent is sacred just to meet a certain ideal of beauty. But this woman is nothing wrong with that? On the contrary, she is respected because of her age and life experience. And so it should also be right! You are who you are and where you should be happy with it. For me this is one of the many things we can learn from this so-called disadvantaged people in the West.

On the trip we regularly sleep with the locals. Sometimes totally unexpected because the itinerary is not nice to connect and sometimes deliberately. People often ask me if I do not find scary? Uh no. Of course you always have bad luck and some bummer bump, but I have to honestly say to me that never happened. In fact, the moments that I have to do most often remember something of traveling with a stay at the locals :-). Why you should choose such a homestay? Well do so!

1. It gives you a glimpse into 't real life.
If you have ever visited a few more tourist destination, you know them well; that supposedly authentic strains that perform a dance for you and take you to an 'authentic' hut to spend the night. With bed. And wc. And running water. So much for authentic: -? . I'm not saying this not just as well be super fun, but for a truly authentic look at 's local life you really close to the village to be the corner. I think it's always special to temporarily part of a local family and experience how different life is there. Adds me something on my travels yours!

2. You support the local population.
Too often wants the mistress take no money when you have spent a night with a local family. Can I somehow also imagine, but it still does not feel good. Especially if you also have eaten some of their meager eats stock. Usually we leave a bedragje behind in the room where we slept; so you avoid an awkward moment and you still support the locals. Especially in remote villages there are often few ways to make money; beautiful yet there you can bring a little change? Tip: take also some clothing, toys and useful stuff with you when you travel. Perfect to hand out at your family!

3. Fine budget option.
Recently I wrote an article about how you can travel as much as possible for as little money as possible 8-). A homestay certainly also part! While you of course your family does give a small fee, it will only be a fraction of the costs you incur when you choose each time a hotel or hostel. That way you can do quite a bit of cost savings from traveling!

As I walked on my slippers shuffling across the road from our hotel in Agra towards the Taj Mahal

As I walked on my slippers shuffling across the road from our hotel in Agra towards the Taj Mahal. On most days it is a coming and going of tourists here. But on Monday, when the Taj is closed, the locals take over the streets. Annoying street vendors are suddenly in the minority and even the ubiquitous cows seem to avoid the noise. With my camera in my hand, I noticed right away that it sometimes could be a nice day to photograph the street life here. In the morning I took quite a few nice pictures, but as the sun came up higher in the sky and the light was brighter, the chance to take beautiful pictures gradually decreased. Personally, I find light, next choice, namely one of the most important things that can make a photo or break.

Then tonight just try, I thought. So, no sooner said than done. I knew from previous days when the red walls around the buildings on this side of the Taj at the end of the afternoon, very nice activate, or darken. And then you sometimes just have a little luck. I turned the corner from our hotel and immediately saw three little old man sitting on a bench. Press Office discussion about cricket or politics. I think ;-) . What makes this picture so great is the simplicity of the composition, the colors stand out against each other and the shoes that stand for the bench so neat. It gives the viewer an idea of the daily lives of these men. Something not always have to be as bad as we sometimes here sometimes thinking. They have here and there holes in their clothes sitting does not mean that they are less fortunate than you and me. Though that is a lesson that you often pick up an experienced traveler.

Meanwhile, there are quite a few countries that I travel from my list down to stripes, but trust me; there still remain much more are 8-). And with every travel book I read or program that I look out there at new destinations. There's just see so much beauty in the world! There are a number of trips that I really dream that they are:

With a ship to Antarctica.
What seems to me very cool say! With a large cargo ship with trips to Antarctica and the Falkland Islands. Besides that of course would be a special kind of journey, it seems so special to live 24 hours a day on a ship with nothing but silence around you. Well, almost then ;-). Just water, ice and large groups of penguins. Unfortunately, you must dig deep into their pockets for such a trip, so I think that in the short term will not be in ...

Swimming monkeys in Japan.
Several months a year you can in northern Japan monkeys admiring herself warming up in the hot springs there. I have sometimes seen photos; looks really hilarious off. It is a special kind of macaques which occurs only in Japan. Furthermore, Japan'm not quite particular actually looks, but for those monkeys I'd make an exception!

Annapurna trail.
I have often written about my love for Nepal . Super Nice and authentic country. What I have not yet done there is the Annapurna trail. Or one of those other gift treks of several weeks walking in the Himalayas. It seems very heavy and I think I myself would encounter several times, but I hope not ever do it once. The immense mountains around you; which must surely feel great?

Tea drinking in Iran.
Iran has long been high on my list. Last year 's came almost. It is probably no country where you think; hey, cozy J! Snap I only really make Iran an image problem. Everyone I hear about it and everything I read about it in the same direction: warm, hospitable people and a special historical culture. Fascinates me 't huge; of the role that women in Iran to the old Persian culture and delicious food :-).

Visit to St. Petersburg.
A somewhat 'smaller' travel dream, but no less popular: Saint Petersburg. I would love a time the dead of winter to travel to this fairytale city. It will determine its freezing cold and maybe I curse myself then, but continues to draw the image of small Amsterdam in Russia with snow on the roofs. We still live an acquaintance in St. Petersburg, so actually it would just coming winter should be ;-).

Lecture and exhibition Last Saturday there was in the Museum of Ethnology in Leiden, a lecture by Jimmy Nelsen

Ever heard of Jimmy Nelson? I until recently at least not. To my friend with photos of these products, saying non-photographer, arrived. I do not know what you are when you pull out 4 years to create a series of specific nations around the world ;-), but these Jimmy has an eye for 'beautiful' image seems clear to me. Under the title 'Before They pass away', he has compiled a very beautiful book, which he peoples threatened with extinction captured.

Lecture and exhibition Last Saturday there was in the Museum of Ethnology in Leiden, a lecture by Jimmy Nelsen. The Englishman who lived for more than a decade in the Netherlands is not boring ;-) anyway. Boy, what a troublemaker. Barefoot, he said, gesticulating over the hurdles he had to overcome to achieve that gift photos. 1.5 months with -40 ° C live in a tank on the plains of Kamchatka weeks to sympathize with a tribe in Mongolia before he even could make one picture; Jimmy has done it all. 4 years later, and a wealth of experience to his pictures exhibited richer at the Museum of Ethnology.

Authentic or not? There is a lot of discussion about the photos that made Jimmy. They would not be authentic and made. Partly this is true for me though. The pictures are clear and directed the people do not have obvious wear in their everyday garb. But is that bad? Is not it just beautiful to capture these kinds of people in all their splendor? For me it does not end so far. Simply because I dramatic photography that has yielded just look super cool. And in doing so; I can only bring admiration for the troublemaker. It takes courage to give up the strength, to follow your heart and take off four years to realize your dream. Overall, I can definitely recommend to go see the exhibition in Leiden! The book is pretty expensive from € 90, but as you will know how much time and energy put into it the photos, this is more than worth it! I am very curious what you think of the pictures, take this a look and let me know

When I think of one of the most relaxing trips I've ever made, I can not think otherwise than in Central America. Mañana, mañana into every fiber ;-). Lovely. Costa Rica is taking perhaps the most relaxed. You do not go if you're looking for a very authentic destination, but otherwise, Costa Rica has everything to offer for a superfine trip. One of the things I was surfing there was the cutest! Hang the little beach babe ;-). Not that I have a lot of super-baked, but it is not there. It felt pretty cool 8-)! The best surf spots in Costa Rica you will find on the Pacific coast: the beaches of Dominical.

Surfing from morning to evening.
That's what most people do in Dominical. There is also not much to do. Dominical is actually a semi-paved road with all kinds of shops and restaurants and a rugged beach. That's it. There is a kind of hippie relaxed atmosphere with equally special characters ;-). Nice to stay a few days hanging out and rent a surf board. For surfing you can so when the best! The waves are high, sometimes strong currents and there are lessons to be followed in abundance. Those are indeed quite pricey. A beginner lesson takes you quickly fall $ 50 for 2 hours and standing. Admittedly including surfboard, but still. My tip would be secretly watching it at one of the many lessons around you. Then you have fast enough by what they let you do 100x. Although I am far from progressed on a surfboard, I was talking after 3 days Dominical quite a bit below the knee. It's just practice a lot ...

 Dominical surf 2

What else?
If you just get tired of fumbling on your shelf and the salt on your skin, it's super nice to go to a morning Uvita; a town near Dominical where Marino is Ballena; a national park in the water. Including dolphins and whales! Those whales spot you do not always, but the Dolphins sure. Very cool! A yoga lesson is nice as an alternative. The 'main drag' of Dominical is Bamboo Yoga Play Studio. You can several times a day to do all kinds of yoga with fantastic views of the sea. Recommende

This trip is going to be different from how we normally travel, because we rented a car

In less than 2 weeks I'm sitting on the plane to Uganda. Woehoe! I am super excited 8-). We have an overnight flight from Dusseldorf with a brief stopover in Dubai to have breakfast here and then hop on to Entebbe in Uganda. We are local time in the afternoon around 1 hour. Perfect! The airport still seems to be quite a bit of the capital Kampala, so we have a nice bus ride straight ahead. Somewhere quickly find a hostel and then I probably plop down in a hammock ;-).

The journey.

This trip is going to be different from how we normally travel, because we rented a car. Uganda by public transport does not seem determined to be relaxed and it seems sometimes like to do a road trip :-). Especially when it is in Africa, with your tent at hand. The morning after our arrival we can pick up the car in any case and we leave right away from Kampala. Cities are not really my cup of tea. Eventually we will be more than two weeks traveling through Uganda and Rwanda a week. Fat chance of that indeed still is different. Nothing is as changeable as a backpacker. And then the party is not over yet, as we fly back again via Dubai, where we also linger once but three days. Nice is not it?

Yet while and then it is so far! Until then, I remain, of course, lots of blogging on Trip Girl and during our trip there will be enough to read new articles. Maybe not every day if somewhere not reach into the jungle, but I hope you understand ;-).

This photo was taken on the route from Srinagar to Leh, near Dras. The people who live here are a mix of Karhmiri and Darden; descendants of an ancient kingdom before it was annexed by the country after the independence of India. It has the dubious honor after Siberia to where people live all year round, the coldest place on earth). In the winter it is an average of -40 ° C. Dras is located near Kargil , another site of interest on this route. In 1999, the third Kashmir war between India and Pakistan came here for three months. Kargil is the main town in an area claimed by Pakistan, but already many years the territory of India. Both countries attacked each other with jets, helicopters and other such weaponry. Meanwhile it is quiet and you can travel as a tourist fine. In the mountains seem sometimes to be skirmishes between the two armies, but we have during our trip nothing of gemerkt.Sterker, you can a little further south, near Amritsar, even the border between India and Pakistan visits. Every night they officially close here show the border with a lot of power. Here you will notice obvious that both countries are not close friends, but my ow what it's cool to do that! Before you go, always be a current security situation. You never know ;-).

Fotografietip.

The men of the picture are locals who were on their way from one to the other village. Especially when you click on the picture and it looks bigger, you can only really see the depth in the picture. This gives you a little bit impressed how big the mountains. Have you ever tried to get depth in a picture, such as skiing or hiking in the mountains? It remains very difficult to do this. Almost always, it is in reality much deeper, steeper and grander than you look back on photos or video. One of the ways to get more depth in a picture by a certain topic to put in the foreground here and whether to focus on. Because this guys will see in the foreground, you get a better idea of how big the rock wall behind them actually is not. Try it out during a subsequent trip in the mountains!

When I was a few years set a single lady, I was simply on vacation. Near and far. And not nice that I went with such an organized trip ;-). How relaxed and perhaps even fun that can be; not for me. But what do you do if your friends all have a relationship and have 25 vacation days per year ?! Well, just so but. I was really the first time a while a small threshold, but later found that nonsense. I made super fun trips I would not have missed for anything. These are for me the pros and cons of solo travel:

Benefits.

- You do not have to stick with one account and can kick start your own thing. No sense to go on the road? Still not good. Delicious! With a friend it 's different, but when you're with strangers journey would I still feel a little socially obliged always to join. So that does no good if you're traveling solo!

- You meet the nicest people. Just when you're traveling solo you meet all kinds of people you probably otherwise had no contact. Yet you pull before your friend (-in) or group travel far. I think it's just great fun to meet travel special, fun and local people. Then traveling solo ideal!

- You learn to know yourself well. That does it anyway for travel; you come just in situations that you've made it out earlier and thus learn to know yourself better. I myself have at least

- If you're traveling solo this is exacerbated because sometimes you're really on your own. You can not discuss here about the itinerary and about the evening regularly only angling your pasta'tje inside. nonetheless provides a kind of cool feeling when you're here too once thick with fine still feels?

Cons.

 - Travel = share. I think quite a bit. Now I have a couple of years with my friend travel together, I feel, however, that 's very nice to be able to share experiences traveling together. That wrong you do if you're traveling solo.

- Everything is expensive. Well, almost everything. A single room is always relatively more expensive than a double room per person. The same goes for little tour and book a guide for example. They often charge a flat fee what you do but beautiful moment on your own to tap off.

- Sense of security for the ladies . I say "feel" for safety in many countries for women traveling alone very well. Especially in Asia, there are many places where you feel free as a woman alone can go. It's just the feeling of insecurity that you can do sometimes when you walk somewhere alone around. Just trust your instincts and look good in the culture.

For me, the benefits of solo trips certainly outweigh the disadvantages. Now I would of course like to be more different than going with my friend on the road ;-), but if you have no relationship and doubts about a solo trip I would definitely just go! You will not regret it! Have you ever traveled alone? What did you think of that?

If you love adventure travel and travel prefer unorganized, it is wise you advance deeper in terms of stability and security

If you love adventure travel and travel prefer unorganized, it is wise you advance deeper in terms of stability and security extra good at your destination. I frequently get questions about "weird" destinations that I choose from ;-). And of course countries like India, Iran or shortly Rwanda be a different story than France or Italy. But my experience is really that you simply must use your common sense and should take into account local customs and circumstances. As long as you all keep in mind, chances are small that you end up in an unsafe situation.

Panama.

In recent weeks, the disappearance of Kris and Lisanne in Panama regularly in the news. And with the latest news about finding backpacks, shoes and now human remains of one of the girls, doubt creeps everyone to feel. Regularly I hear around me; why those girls then had to go Panama as a destination ?! Urge you not also such a situation about yourself? I want to scream! Regardless of what exactly happened in Panama, nobody raises something out of himself. Why not for a country like Panama can choose the right preparations? In Central America, it is even one of the countries with the lowest crime. Of course the figure is still much higher than in the Netherlands, but that does not change that you as a tourist should be good to go.

Open travel.

And so it is with many countries. India is really not drawn any wife of a tuktuk, Iran is certainly not the entire population against the Western world and in Rwanda has long been no more civil war. Yes, they are more adventurous destinations but it is also about all. Many of our imaging also has to do with what we just do not know and we may see what little open against 'other' destinations. Too bad right? My travel credo is: travel as open as possible and trust your gut feeling. Then everything will be alright!

Finally I have internet anywhere :-)! After more than two weeks Uganda, though equally delicious ennnnn I can finally drew and wrote an update on Trip Girl. Was about time! 2 hours ago we were in Kigali, capital of Rwanda, arrived. Tent with a nice hostel put on and then not doing anything after 8 hours of eating dust in the car ;-).

Uganda so far.

There is so much that I would like to tell about Uganda! In detail there will be in the coming weeks, enough messages to appear on Travel Girl, but for now I can say that Uganda is truly FAN-TAS-TIC! I had already heard from some of you, but what a super beautiful country this is. In addition to the enormous natural beauty, vast national parks and the crazy wild life, people also look super sweet. Wherever we get the kids all of yards away running up the road and if we again look, there are no time dozens of people around us to help. I was there quite a different picture in advance, but you notice in certain places really there just is not great many tourists. Everything is a little unspoiled, authentic and pure. Exactly what I love :-).

Finest moments.

After arriving at the airport in Entebbe, we have the next day immediately went to Kidepo. Kidepo is a national park in the far north of Uganda, at the border with South Sudan. Precisely for this reason, there are few tourists and those who did get there let them fly in a private plane. Well. Can. It is a long drive from no less than 14 hours over bad roads, but for me so very worth it! This was for me so far one of the best moments of our trip. We are more than three days left in Kidepo and I enjoyed every minute! Many wild super seen; even lions :-D literally 3 meters away! Crazy right ?! We stood alone with our mini tent in the middle of the park; I'm not going to forget. Anyway, I'll save the rest for a later article!

Further plans.

And now? Now we are to come in Rwanda. The idea is that we make tomorrow a day of sightseeing in and around Kigali and then quickly go out the city. Probably we go a little to the north, to the Virunga area. There you can do amazing treks where you climb volcanoes. Just something for me :-)! What we will do next, I do not know yet. I will keep you posted! For now lovingly from Africa and see you soon !!

If you Granada comes riding in, you first get through some slums and older neighborhoods

At Granada you think fast to that wonderful southern Spanish city. But there is another Granada, just a tad further 8-) home. In the west of Nicaragua fact is the lovely colonial Granada. During my trip to Nicaragua, I had really no expectations at Granada. It's an 'our pick' in the Lonely Planet, but I made it often. It just seemed like another big city. Error ;-)!

European atmosphere.
If you Granada comes riding in, you first get through some slums and older neighborhoods. But the closer you get to the center of this town, the more beautiful and classic is Granada. Until you get off at the Parque Colón, the main square in the city, and you gazes at the beautiful cathedral and colorful buildings. Old men flirt like they are 20, hip swaying women with baskets of fruit, and children playing with fallen palm leaves. Yes, you're in Central America :-). Granada does continue almost European with the churches, ancient cobblestones and colonial buildings. You really feel like somewhere in Spain. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere and it is the ideal base for a trip to Masaya volcano or the islands in Lake Nicaragua, Granada is located. Delicious!

 Granada Hostel 2

Hospedaje.
A finding affordable hostel is not very easy in Granada. I'm not the only one who could live so Granada ;-) and you have the price mark. Where Nicaragua is also quite cheap for Western tourists, Granada is clearly a tad more expensive. During our stay in Granada, we slept in Hospedaje La Pergola ; a small mini-hotel meets hostel +, consisting of 11 rooms and an awesome courtyard. Complete with swings and hammocks. The rooms are huge, fresh and all have air conditioning. La Pergola is also within walking distance of Parque Colón, so you walk in the evening as a terrace to. What really is a must! A double costs around $ 50.

In Mongolia you may think quickly to dull, monotonous and vast steppe landscapes. However, the country is very diverse! Within one day you can from your old, probably Russian jeep different landscapes you go by. Of the known endless steppes to immense rock formations and meandering rivers. And what do you think of 'singing dunes' :-D? In the middle of the Gobi desert you will find dunes Khongoryn; zoghete the singing dunes so. The area is about 12 kilometers wide and 100 kilometers long. The highest dunes in front you see in the pictures are around 200 meters high. While climbing the dunes shifting sand and it looks like it sings. Hence the magical name. This photo was taken just before sunset. From the villagers where you can sleep, I walked up on my own in about an hour. It seems simple, if you walk so reluctant, but make no mistake. At every step you take, you slip back a half step. But once you're up and you look over an area that seems to clear by the setting sun to the minute of colors, you realize once again how special it is to be able to travel the world. Nothing but emptiness, wind and typical singing sound. No cell phones, no internet, no traffic, no hustle and bustle of the city. And when night falls, you experience what really complete silence.

Travel tip.

Be on time for the sunset, but then wait not too long walk back. By the time I walked back to the ger, it was already dark. The ger was directly in front of me, I could'm still see in my memory. But once it was dark, and I was probably walked right past the camp, I was lost. Fortunately, I heard voices that I could go off and I liked the way back. Otherwise you can get here in serious trouble

If you think of a fine far away destination with pearly white beaches, azure waters and swaying palms

If you think of a fine far away destination with pearly white beaches, azure waters and swaying palms, Thailand is probably one of the destinations that comes to you. From backpacking to über luxury all inclusive holidays; there's something for everyone. That combined with the lovely people and delicious food, Thailand surely make a hit. Until recently ...

Coup in Thailand.

namely the army has committed a coup on May 22 of this year and now officially governs the land of the eternal smile. That is not passed any chances. It seems that the Thai years were unhappy with the way the government Yingluck led the country. Especially corruption, where always the most vulnerable people back from becoming victims. Last November wandered about all rather out of hand, after it became clear that the rice farmers could whistle for a grant. That they are not caught and the revolt spread rapidly out. Meanwhile, the struggle especially in Bangkok very clear. I like the pictures on the news must believe you'll see quite a few military parade. And what about a curfew ?! Which is therefore also set. Bit unfortunate if you like to come with your backpack in Bangkok.

Travel to Thailand.

At this time, the travel advice from our government negative. Well. Apart from that I do understand from a government, I am 't disagree ;-). Of course you should avoid demonstrations, you follow the rules and keep a close eye on the local news, but if you do all you can go to Thailand just fine to me. Remember that the Thais have nothing against tourists. In fact; In some tourist areas, the curfew has been lifted, because they do not want to damage tourism. I traveled often to countries that had a negative travel advice and believe me, every time it was my conclusion that that opinion was greatly exaggerated. As long as you have a little extra on your guard and trust your (travel) feeling is very much possible. Also in Thailand ;-).

I'm a little gezondheidmoe. If you know me a little, you know that this statement does not really suit me, but it is so. All those self-appointed experts who claim that you have all the way back to prehistoric times to be truly healthy, get me a little throat out. Not even to mention the Nutrition Center, which suddenly finds necessary to broadcast commercials sad about bread and soda. "We know what is good for you." Well. Now I have absolutely no high opinion of the Nutrition Center. With me so they can already do much good ;-), but the smear campaign that is going on right now to do everything that a few years ago kilos ate captivated, me going to take some away.
Bread, there's a good point. You know him yet, slogan? With me is' t is ingrained in each case. And let's be honest. Previously at anyone yet 2x daily bread? In the morning, waiting for a Bammetje with cheese and a cup of tea and lunchtime there were again two or three on me. Sneak Killers if you need some nutritionists believe now. Because, corn is no longer what it once was. The sooner our population grew, the more grain was needed and so the more people that rock-solid grain is tampering to increase the yield per hectare. And that not as healthy cereal made our sandwiches. Thus far can I still go along. But there is now a run originated on everything "spells" or "rye" is capable of bread under the spell? Shoot me. That the bread you buy at the bakery is not as nutritious as decades ago will, but that does not mean a whole sandwich is suddenly bad for you.
Everything in moderation.
As with everything I do keep very much in size, vary what you eat and listen to your body. For example, I get prone to milk and I eat so little. But not because milk is also on the no go list, but simply because it is not nice to me. The same is true with packets and jars; I cook prefers fresh and pure, but just because it feels nicer for my body. And I 't find better :-). Not because I believe that all containers must either be super bad banned. I think that is the best way to diet to go and just enjoy delicious of. Overall, I think we might be a little bit too far to be beaten by our homemade mayonnaise, homemade spelled bread and tough goji berries. Fine to eat and may also all very well, but let's also good life and enjoying food. With brown bread with cheese.

Not my cup of tea, but unfortunately it just does anything better to do when you go to Africa

Recently I wrote an article about swallowing malaria pills. Not my cup of tea, but unfortunately it just does anything better to do when you go to Africa. A pitch of the malaria mosquito tropicana fluttering around there you would rather not deal with. And so I behaved last night made my second malaria pill. This time I still chose lariam after long doubting. I know, the nasty stories surrounding this pill are not frugal, but I wanted to try it at that. Especially since it is a lot cheaper than malarone and you are also only 1x per week to have to think. Another advantage is that you should start lariam 3 weeks before departure, so if I get bothered by those nasty side effects may I still transfer to malarone. I must say that I am a bit sick after a meal and intense dream, but otherwise I see nothing. Keep it like that! Regardless of whether you do or not going to malaria, anyway it is important to take other antimalarial measures. Goal: do not put :-).

Mosquito net!
Big time. I would, especially if you go to Africa, really take. In the middle and slightly more expensive hotels, you will undoubtedly find a mosquito net, but especially in hostels you can not forget. The mosquito only lights in the evening and at night, just so it is important that you protect yourself properly. And now all dressed to crawl into bed is not really in the hot Africa an option ;-).

Long Sleeves.
evening course, you want to enjoy delicious your food or on a terrace a game of cards down. No matter how tempting, do not in your shorts and camisole. I always have some of those simple longsleeves with me and some harem pants. Is nice and airy and yet you completely covered. Mosquitoes indeed coming at dark and bright colors; So better to wear white or soft pastels.

DEET.
Well, then the offending DEET. Dirty sticky stuff. But very effective. Mosquitoes hate it. And therefore also in this trip to Uganda a bottle of DEET in my toiletry bag. Actually, this kind of anti-mosquito measures are more important than swallowing malaria pills. You can include as yet add up, how obediently swallowed them too. And it is always necessary to get to a doctor or hospital as soon as possible.

Chengdu. Chances are you've never heard of. I did not before I accidentally ended up on a trip to Tibet. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan; a province in southwestern China. It is one of the metropolises in China, where we have never heard often in the West. And next to you so you can take the train to Tibet, do not have a lot of reasons to linger in Chengdu. It's a big, grimy town with a lot of Chinese ;-). Yet, you can entertain you at least 24 hours. With what?

Panda Bears.
Panda bears are cute anyway :-)? Unfortunately it is an endangered species worldwide, but Chengdu is a unique collection and research center where you can see these pandas in person. It's obviously not the real thing, but they do everything to imitate here as closely as possible the natural living conditions of pandas. At present there are approximately 50 pandas in Chengdu; very worth to visit if you're there.

 Chengdu 2

Buddha of Leshan.
This is really a must. About 1.5 hours away by car is the village of Leshan. The village itself a joke, but there are quite a lot of tourists away. And for the 71 meter high Buddhas can you can see here. The Buddhas can is carved into the rock and caustic visible and symmetrical. Very cool to see! You can walk through a beautiful walk all the way to the top of the Buddha and finally descend on the other side. Then you can really see how big the thing is. Super nice trip!

 Chengdu 3

Night Chinese opera.
And it's nice evenings at step 8). In Chinese opera! Quite an experience and so completely different from what we call a night. Even if you do not understand a ball of Chinese, it is still worth visiting a Chinese opera. The music, facial expressions in the faces, beautiful costumes and special atmosphere ensure that you will not soon forget. Chinese opera seems you something? Ask at your hostel or they can arrange tickets for you, surely succeed!

And then you 24 hours have passed in Chengdu. Unless you are sleeping at night sticks then eh ;-). You can of course still linger a day, but honestly, my advice would not it be. Then there is lots to see another beautiful in China! Have you ever been to China? If so where?

It is now already more than 1.5 month since I ran the Rotterdam Marathon

It is now already more than 1.5 month since I ran the Rotterdam Marathon. And I must confess that I have not run since more serious distance ;-). However, many shorter pieces and always as warm up before strength training, but there 's remains therefore better for it. No idea which actually. Which 42.2 kilometers have fallen with me, the recovery has gone well and I have not even bales of running. I'm just glad to work with weights lately. Did you know that strength training just works very well for runners? I have also noticed it myself several times with that crazy leg injury from me. Especially core stability training works well! These are my favorite exercises.

 Core plank final

Shelves with that bite!
Shelves always seems so easy, does not it? Until you do it yourself. I'm not a minute planker I can tell you ;-), but this exercise is there by default at me. The fine on boards is that you use your whole body; almost every muscle is committed to. Behold the reason why it's so spicy. A nice variation on the usual shelf is sideways. Basically the same, only your support but on one foot and elbow. Raise your other arm outstretched in the air; that helps to keep your body tightened.

 Core diaphragm final

Buttocks tighten it!
In this exercise, there are two options: the more static version where you just lift your hips up and tighten your buttocks. Not only good for your core, but also for nice tight butt on the beach 8-). If you do want a little more work on your core stability, you can extend the same exercise with your legs one by one to lift and hold the 15 count. May seem easy, but it is dirty to. When I worked with core stability training began this exercise for shit me; I was so unstable as hell. This exercise allows your core really stable.

 Core abdominal

Good old abs.
In all variations and exercises. Always good. Also for your core, because it is of course not only on the back of your body :-). Mind you with training your abdominal muscles that you continue to excite them. 4 times a week doing exactly the same tunes will stop working at any given time. Therefore it is good to vary in both exercises as numbers.

In less than a week I'm in Africa 8-). Yoohoo! As I recently wrote , this is a slightly different journey than normally. Also because there are a number of issues in advance had to be arranged. Visa for Rwanda permit for the mountain gorillas in Uganda and at the last minute also went extra vaccinations for a walk with chimpanzees. The past few days I made the final preparations:

 Uganda preps 1

Handy stuff.
Well. Basket full at Etos and Kruidvat :-). Just those handy things; minis, Labello, acetaminophen and some food. The latter should never forget that. I'm just which Elizabeth Hurley from that Snickers advertising. If I do not eat too long I get itchy and I'm not very nice anymore. What better strips and Fast Freddy's note so but.

 Uganda preps 2

Yo baby!
Look at me with that hat :-P. I was still looking for a new hat. Like I always sit when the sun shines brightly. I love not only of caps with a big mark on it and light colored cases are not very useful if you backpackt. I found this simple cap at H & M. However, in the men's department, but who cares ?!

 Uganda preps 3

But blogging!
As a child I was always with a notebook and pen around. Write, write, write. Now Trip Girl increasingly beginning to be, I was looking for a small book where I can lose some practical things to share with you ;-). Cost of a small tour, experience at a hostel, fun facts of a particular village; those kind of things. HEMA I found this cute little book. Inside the backpack!

 Uganda preps 4

Nice walk.
Ok, not sexy. I know. But what walk my new sandals from Merrell heeeeeeeerlijk. Until now I always have my year old Teva's walking around, but it was about time for a new pair. By chance I heard of this brand. Despite being obviously still not Blahniks, you see that they are trying to give these sandals a little feminine touch. Well. I am in any case wonder how they walk in Uganda!

 Uganda preps 5

Forest Walk with chimpanzees.
Ow this is really great! Namely, we literally go hiking with small chimpanzees. Not just the jungle and hope they ridicule you, but really holding hands walking :-D. In the Victoria Lake is Ngamba Island in Uganda; an island where about 42 chimpanzee orphans live. The young ones let them integrate slowly into the larger group by making a so-called forest walk with them in the morning. And so we come into the picture. Here we only have some extra vaccinations and stamps needed; fixed it!

Those were the final preparations. Now I'm going Sunday clothes to pack up, here some washing and Hatsa: I'm ready! Next week is a bit hurry up on my work so that's why I'm all nice idea would have done. Keep you posted!

Buttons to operate the cruise control and speed limiter are on steering wheel mounted underneath the buttons that the onboard computer is operated

Last Monday I had to hand my VW Touran for end lease. My replacement car was delivered at the point of return (temporary car). This proved to be a Ford Focus.

After 3.5 years ago once made a test drive in a Focus, I had great expectations. In addition, it is a beautiful color, namely Magnetic, a dark gray color.

This is a Ford Focus 1.5 CDTi 95 hp in the Trend version. In addition, this car features the Technology Pack, which inter alia includes an embedded touchscreen navigation system with voice control, Bluetooth, front center armrest and rear parking sensors.

After a few days away (about 700 km), drop me a number of things.

1. Pleasant navigation

Besides a fine control (via touch screen or via voice control), the screen display is clear and pleasant. Where many navigation systems from bird's eye view toggle to lane assist, the system displays it in split screen both again. Also nice that the voice (route guidance) can be plotted. Moreover, the system also displays traffic information.

2. No comfortable chairs

I sit on average 2 times a day 1 or 1.25 hours in the car. So far I got even with back pain and pain in my knee after every ride. The seats are not very nice, are far from comfortable.

3. Turn blink first or third time?

Today, every car has it; a small movement of the turn and the lights flash three times. But what strikes me is that when you go to the right one time to three times flashed be, but sometimes once. I can not figure out what is the cause.

4. Hill Hold?

This feature is "on" in the menu, however, I notice there is very little of it. Or maybe this system works only with steeper slopes? All in all I would not attach too much importance to this feature, as at a traffic light you just roll backwards (or forwards) ...

5. Illogical place control cruise control

Buttons to operate the cruise control and speed limiter are on steering wheel mounted underneath the buttons that the onboard computer is operated. This place is very illogical and impractical. Will operate only when you either get your eyes off the road, or you have more or less "ready" put your fingers over the keys. You can not "feel" what key is.

6. Short armrest

You can actually call any armrest more ... At best, your elbow resting just this. Too bad they have made it no longer, or movable (so you can slide it forward).

7. Little storage

Well VW Touran naturally excels in the number of storage compartments, but this focus has very little. Except in the doors and the glove box, there is a very small space on the left under the steering wheel (for coins ...?) And a compartment under the armrest where just some small things may. No subjects in the headlining, no boxes under the seats. Rear trunk no compartments under the loading floor (where the spare tire and further can not help with is), only two boxes behind the wheel arches, which are not much larger than the size of the instruction booklets ...

8. Annoying squeak by lamps / door

Earlier many people built a beeper or buzzer in the car in order to avoid that you would leave the lights on when you leave the car. Nowadays automatically go to (almost) all the cars off the lights. At the Ford Focus as well, but if you set the switch to "lights on", you get the key from the ignition and opens the door, there is a squeaker until you close the door again. Very annoying, especially you know that the lights do go out by itself.

9. Consumption

I estimate that I make about 75% to 80% highway mileage, but there also some kilometers daily spend in a traffic jam. Nevertheless, I recorded an average consumption of 4.9 l / 100km in recent days. At least that gives the onboard computer on. Perhaps this also differs from reality, so that the actual consumption will be higher. The manufacturer is not feasible for that you have to drive continuous highway 90 km / h without traffic jams or congestion.

All in all I'm somewhat disappointed in the Focus, I had expected more. In particular, the seats are tremendously against me. A few weeks ago I had a few days a VW Polo for a repair to my previous car, which even were a lot better chairs. If Ford would sometimes put better seats in the car, the Focus would definitely be a consideration in selecting the next car. Now I would just all these to drop off the chairs.

When the new Twingo knew came from my wife very quickly that it's replacement should be of the shopping car

Since the beginning of the beginning of November we own a new Twingo. We have traded our old Twingo, this came from the year 2000. We have 5 years without much trouble driven.

When the new Twingo knew came from my wife very quickly that it's replacement should be of the shopping car. And then there was only looking at the outside.

With this new (shopping) car is the aim that we are more used to make and that we show some more the other car at weekends. The car was purchased to transport two adults with the ability to make occasional short pieces with 4 people. If you put two growing children back then you upfront what more slide forward, a ride of 100km can then fine, but really much further you have to go. With his 2-and this is indeed fine, he gives you the feeling that you're in a bigger car than you would expect if this has to do with us this with the old Twingo did so quickly.

We opted for the 90hp version, with Sport Pack and R-Link. Nice sporty, even though we still do regularly to the ECO button. He always goes out when we have to go to merge onto the highway, you'll get like a (much) spicier car.
Consumption now hovers around 6.3 l / 100km, it must be something more economical.

The first few weeks we have had some problems with RLINK, but after a factory reset, we have not had problems since late November and he is doing fine work. The RLINK we also have a reversing camera and to get used to, but one time used, it is easier to park in reverse ... Even with this small car is convenient.

The driving characteristics are fine for this little car, the tight turning circle is getting used to, especially if you want to parallel parking in a garage to a concrete pole is pay attention.

In recent stormy days you have to be careful with crosswinds and gusts. With two hands on the wheel is better, but he is sensitive to side winds.

More later ...
after 10,000 km is still a wonderful car (10,000 km)

We have now passed the 10,000 km, in our previous old Twingo we drove out much. If we now have two or three-and-go away and it is often with this car. This also has to do that we want to save our other cars in km, in October, we expect our new Captur. But not only that, the Twingo is just "fun to ride". He has all the luxury to get some there is. The handling is good, even though we would during the summer storm let him stand and with great rooms. He suffers from crosswinds, but really it did not bother to normal weather (no wind 9).

In terms of space, he is doing fine, even though it is this way and if you come with two adolescent (long) children would sit in the back, then you had more space in the back in the first Twingo.

The first few thousand kilometers we drove in ECO mode, but that sense we stepped from. With 90 hp on board is much more fun and enjoyable ride without the ECO button. I feel he is much more economical in that position. Partly because we need more air con you should not leave ECO him in the summer, he cools a lot less!

He goes Tuesday ashes back to the garage for a recall. The shock absorbers are replaced .. We have not noticed a problem, but the Renault letter was clear: In the garage for inspection.

For the rest, we have no problems.

On to the next 10,000!
5000km further (15,100 km)

Actually, not to mention a lot of news, the first overhaul has been a few months ago. Here was nothing special than regular maintenance.

He still drives like new, it's still a great car. We have the 90hp version, which is really nice and sporty driving. Eco mode off he goes wonderfully smooth on.

Since an August stay at the refueling, we drive an average 1l on 16,75km or 5.97 liters per 100km. For such a small car may not be very efficient, but it is mainly used in and around the village. Most destinations are within 30 km from our house.
On the highway this car feels reasonably well at home, but if it blows hard, we still prefer to take the big car. He is quite sensitive to side winds. If you keep both hands on the handlebars saves it, but wind is not his friend.

The said short distances can be quite reasonable drive with 4 adults, go longer distances than drive it starts to get bored after an hour and you come with stiff legs out of the car. Our previous Twingo had only 3 doors, these five and that is a big plus!

We got an offer last week of the Renault dealer to exchange it (luxury) Twingo for a new, much less luxurious, Twingo. We only had € 2,800 = payable on, we have the offer but declined. We are still some time away in this fun car.
