Due internship I was forced a half hour from home to buy a car. Last week, five days traveled the same distance. The car behaves nicely and very mature for such a small car! Also on the highway he was reasonably quiet, even though he turns around 3000 rpm.
Because gasoline prices which were lower at the gas station near last Friday, I have the car but just tanked off. The tank was half empty. Using an app and the mileage I calculated that I've driven one last week at 18.5. As I drove mostly highway mileage, which in my opinion even more economical. Next week go at a slightly more economical pace ride.
What me last week noticed that the car has probably been much under trees and in all weathers. Even when the car is washed, there remain many speckles on the paint behind. Soon I think anything but spend money on professional cleaning, both outside and inside. It also struck me that turning the ignition is something heavy. You may wish to check this even further.
The most awkward about this car is that the shelf has no strings, so you sometimes forget the board to do down. This creates frustration, but will have to be some kind of habituation.
In 2011, decided it was time for a hobby.
If Citroen lover was and would be a -weer- CX.
But yes, find once again a good one for a reasonable price. And the next point with a CX if like me you live maintenance in Germany.
So the desire to abandon and started looking for alternatives.
My wife felt that a fair-weather car had to be, and so it happened that there was intensively searched for a Golf 1 Cabriolet. This is because I've always found a nice car, and they are relatively affordable, both to purchase and maintenance.
The quest has brought us eventually in Lubeck where Inka Blue metallic Young Line was for sale.
The car was a lover who had driven seven years and 50,000 km along. He had even put a video on YouTube for sale!
Reason for sale: The Golf had to make way for a Porsche 996 Cabrio.
Incredibly friendly and provided all afternoon about cars chatted while enjoying coffee and cake!
The test drive brought some things to light including a worn clutch and a worn switching mechanism but with a new hood Sonneland dust.
The rest of the car looked so good and the stacks of bills from 1996 (!) And the new TÜV aroused a lot of confidence that we have concluded after a little negotiating the sale.
A week later, again from Wolgast Lübeck to retrieve the Gulf last. It was the vendor an emotional intention. There were made some pictures and had to promise to fit well in the Gulf and occasionally let me hear something.
The weather was great so the 300km home course with the top down!
That went smoothly and the car felt good, he was just very slow .... but otherwise wonderful!
The Gulf has been notified from April to October and is in the winter dutifully in the garage.
The first summer driving about 5,000 km and repair the link at the end of the season. The following summer, driven by circumstances very little and in 2014 too little by a move towards NRW.
But the summer is upon us and wants with the Gulf this year, driving to Lake Como, so I wonder how that goes!
Troubleshooting / maintenance:
Of course, had the necessary costs to the car. We do it so you can not escape that at about a 23 year old car.
Here is a list since 2012;
coupling
-complete exhaust incl. Cat
shock absorbers front
-different sensors (refrigeration, knock sensor)
-stuurhoezen
-bougies, spark plug wires
, the fair field say that the shock absorbers (Bilstein) and the clutch were relatively high cost (€ 1,000 incl. TÜV)
the consumption fluctuates with many short pieces between 1 to 9 and 1 to 11. Have only 1 times 900 km at a stretch drive, and that consumption was around 1 to 13 at an average speed of around 120. Not quite so frugal but it's an old car with aerodynamics of a brick.
But it is a fun car and I think the consumption frankly not so important.
Furthermore, I think still slow car but I suspect that the 17 "wheels. And the simple fact that I daily my mileage make in a Fiat Grande Punto 1.9 Diesel with 120hp and 280Nm of torque.
I hope to have a nice set Le Castellet and Estoril rims tapping the head 15 "so that the Gulf there bit by bit original to stand. Because that is the value even better.
Of course, the car is not perfect yet. The switching mechanism is yet to be overhauled as well as the filling pipe (corroded), and the fuel pump to zoom beginte in the tank. You notice slow that an old car starts to be, but fortunately you can go through the simple technique much self .. The Gulf must again this year for the TÜV. I want all done before I go to Italy with the Gulf.
The car;
This is a Golf 1 convertible from 1993. A Young Line embodiment with a motor 2H with 98hp and with manual transmission and not automatic transmission as mentioned above condition.
The car has power steering, electrically operated hood, central locking but is otherwise pretty basic. The previous owner still get into a Clifford alarm system and there is a good plant with an Alpine radio and Rainbow speakers incl. Amplifier in the trunk. But it is not moving disco, which I had ages ...
Furthermore, the vehicle is equipped with 17 "rims RH, S-Rohr 60mm exhaust Novus (modest hum) and black Fifft tail.
Once I get mileage with the Golf'm going to make, I will update this report.
it is about 4 years and 12,000 fun Kilometres not much more to say with good weather then it's a great car for touring the Bergisch land where I live now.
this area east of Cologne I can recommend every convertible driver! Hilly, nice curves, nice towns and villages where you can eat often for relatively little money. and stunning views over the hills towards the Siebengebirge and the Westerwald.
