After much consideration yet taken the decision to buy this car. I go by public transport for 10 years everywhere, but this is starting to be pretty difficult if you's got to go home in the evening at 12 o'clock. There are no buses or indeed more, and as the train is more expensive a car is just as expensive after some calculations.
So what you buy then? Right, an expensive Mercedes. Admittedly, the car is expensive, but if you're car fanatic then you take it like the bargain. Since my 5th I see this car as an ever made of the finest Mercedes, so after some deliberation to tap a fast Japanese on the head made a decision yet for this German car. Unfortunately, the road tax policies on the shovel, otherwise it was all even more fun.
The mileage is high, the car is heavy, not extremely fast, but what is the car so beautiful. I've always been a fan of the 80's with its "square" cars, and this is obviously a dream car. Although I have my license already thick 10 years of my driving experience lingers with a Renault Scenic, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Transporter, but still, you notice the difference right when you drive.
This is like a baby on the way. Old leather on all sides, the interior is somewhat sparse, but with every turn you take make you just that, especially for a car of 24 years old and with such high mileage, absolutely fantastic rides. It takes a while for the car is in motion, yet there is still a reasonable amount of power in the engine. Others who have already driven the car were also pleasantly surprised.
A new exhaust should include the need to replace brake pads, the lock of the suitcase loose (probably broken once, given the damage behind), the screens are rusted, the right belt declarant does not work, the sunroof does not open, the seats are to be replaced and the angry viewers must really wonder but for now we will first look if we can ride smoothly in two months.
1st Update on 2 June 2013 (358,000 km)
After 1.000km came the first repair of a little earlier expected. Actually, I had thought that the outlet would still go 10,000 kilometers with it, but this was wishful thinking; After the first round the 1.000km and tear through the polder was "pop" and the first hole was a fact. 2nd update at the end of July 2013 (363,000 km)
Following several cooling water had to fill, and must ultimately do pretty much having every ride, yet once again make a visit to the garage. Initially it was thought that the hose was leaking from the radiator, but a few weeks later turned out that it was the head gasket was the leak. Although the garages asked around about 1.600E, I started looking around for alternatives because garages as many questions as the engine must apart. Eventually someone found through a fanforum who wanted to do it for 800E. Admittedly, initial thing is always a risk, a car give a hobbyist, but also hobbyists are specialized in one type of car it is often those who know more from the local garage nearby. Within a week the car was repaired, and now runs like a charm.
3rd Update December 2013 (371,000 km)
And there I was, right in The Hague. Just 2 kilometers away from home, and the car decides at a traffic light but completely fall silent. The radio did not already on, the heater is always stopped, and that was the end of exercise. No member of the ANWB (dumb!), And when they told me that I'm 175th would cost to drive him from the street to a garage in The Hague (ie 3 kilometers away), I decided to push him a parking space and let me get on. The next morning call which picked him up for a few bucks a local garage in The Hague, and after two hours I heard that the battery was broken. Somewhat unfortunate, since the battery was inside was just 2 years old. The next morning, picked up the car, 150E poorer but to my surprise both worked belt principals again. I had always assumed that one engine was broken, but now I found out that not all the cords were connected equally tidy. Well, that you get a car with incomplete maintenance history ...
4th update January 2014 (373,000 km)
The car should end February for the MOT, so just here to perform a variety to see well what's even more wrong. Once inspected showed that all the brakes need to be replaced, the rear discs after then. 2 new rear tires are required, and some small things. Total bill? 750E including labor. I said it earlier also; looking for someone who needs to, or try things themselves. It's me thick 300E less cost. However, I hope that it will be less with the high cost, since all outstanding maintenance should be resolved after this 3rd repair.
Update 5th August 2014 (384,000 km)
since the MOT I have had no more problems. Nothing left. Until I the car with the high pressure spray was hosing with this beautiful summer weather and the clear coat suddenly spurted from the hood. That was a bit unfortunate. Fortunately costs a bonnet 2nd hand not much, so we replaced soon be a while. And speaking of replacing, after a long search and wait (about a year), found a nice left screen. Almost every W124 more than 20 years has this problem, and since mine was already patched once and had now was it time to replace a big rust spot. I had heard stories about how easy it would be, so eventually even decided to try this yourself. People without knowledge all shouted that it would never succeed because it would break all sorts of screws, and that the screen had to be made and more of this kind of disaster stories, but the job was done after half an hour and the car looks a lot better.
Update 6th October 2014 (388,000 km)
After the last update it turned out that I was not too hard should call that the car was so smoothly, because the car was getting a bit slower. I drive a lot at night, so you can obviously slightly harder than during the day, and I noticed that the construction was difficult, consumption went slowly up, and the top speed was over time to 160 kilometers per hour. And that was with the wind ... When I did not drive more than 140 and there pep at 100 it was out anyway once went to a specialist. It was now clear to me that the local garages are actually know what to do with an old car, you get a lot of guesswork and I did not want anymore.
Once a specialist in Bergambacht after 3 hours of testing no diagnosis yet, and so the counter tapped tasty by labor, and I started to make me slightly worried. After some insistence on a price agreement, I received a note leenbak actually, and I could pick him up Monday afternoon. The problem? The catalyst was closed. And not the catalyst under the car, but the voorkat in the manifold to the engine. And not just a little tight, but really quite close. If there is a gap of a few centimeters was then it was a lot. After I paid (ouch!) I drove away, and the difference is magical. The car has really true never ridden so well, but especially so quickly. What has become a cannon compared to before. I was on the way back through Rotterdam, and there still riding quite a few guppies in their Golfs around that really do not "behind that slow Benz" stand at the traffic light. No, that had next to it, and what a fun when I drove away. Driving they are not a little bit off, no I drive them completely to bump! Granted, it is very boyish, but secretly everyone knows that this is actually awfully nice.

After my father was somewhat deaf rode a few times and it really began to complain that he could not hear me because of the noise from the roof, I'm here once again gone back. The roof clutching a year not close, but now there is condensation drops fell on my neck I thought it was about time to have it repaired. A donordak was indeed a year in the hallway, but because I myself and did not feel like it and actually did not like to resolve it in a weekend itself, eventually found by using a very fine mechanic. It ended donordak also are not good, so it was a complete waste of money, but the final bill was so nice that I could be there live with. Unfortunately, it is now not again for driving with an open roof, but naturally tried it and I notice all I'm going to find this very nice when the sun shines again. Furthermore, the car still as ever, though I find it pulls me through all the games my tires'm pretty to wear in the corners because the grip begins to deteriorate. But the car can basically do anything that has to do with the behavior of the owner.
8th Update: February 2015 (394,000)
and when it snowed in the Netherlands. The achtterruitverwarming the now almost does not the rust and condensation that sits at the side sills (Coupe all have this), so I had to leave quite a blow heater while deleting some so I could see. Then drove a kilometer and then the car hit off suddenly. ANWB called and when it appeared that the generator was broken. Few hits given up, hung on the rope and he drove again. Anyway just replaced. Took fortunately not much, 100E and we drove without worry again.
9th Update: May 2015 (398,000)

I wanted to drive right to the mechanic because here I have quite a dramatic heard stories about it, but my girlfriend wanted to eat first, which meant that I would have to start the car a few times. Once in the evening arrived at the garage I hear when I am driven off to the mechanic, the key does not get more twisted. Conclusion; the entire steering column should look to get belongings out. It was therefore quite a few hours to work, and all for a lock of 30E. Beeeeetje pity ...
10th Update: August 2015 (401,000)
Meanwhile gone over the 400,000 and the engine still running great. However, the other things that start to make it a little less ... I have to wait for the house, I put the car in P and I heard a loud click. Look again, and yes ... you heard it turn very hard the machine. The next day once again went to the pump for some cooking oil and then it was over. Then I drove on the highway and I saw all the smoke behind me ... Oops! Too much thrown in, I saw people really dodging behind me. I really felt for the first time really pile driving my car. To go to the garage for an oil change. I did actually know that this was coming because I've never had to look at the machine. And also appeared after the oil ran out. What a drab it.
Furthermore, I've had similar look to the right door. This does not already nice since I got the car and witness one of the hinges is already deployed once again. And it turns out to be the same with no possibility. Is the door right, then the window does not fit the bodywork. Is the window right then sits crooked door. The disadvantage is that since I let him reset the window now half is adjacent to the rubber of the body in cold weather. And that makes for lots and lots of noise. Here we do not actually come from. The car has ever had a crash, I guessed, but the body will still not be so crooked?

A few weeks later I drove Gassend lot one morning through the polder and suddenly I had after I stopped at a traffic light no more gears. The car shot at neutral. Backward worked well, but you will not get far with it. Dragged by the ANWB and eventually been told by the dealer that the machine quit. Now I must admit that there was more and more broken lately. All little things that broke off or it cut down and after the cars have viewed once at any rust I decided to make him away. All lifting points were already rotted away leaving two very new had to be used. And that's the car just is not worth more because the condition is too bad. The entire repair including any rust at the jacking points wegkrijgen would cost me 1.500E and I was not around to all the other little things ...
12th update: END AUTO
I've been with a lot of pain in my heart to leave the car to the scrapyard bring. By now I drive a 1986 300E which is much better, but the comfort with which the compartment over thresholds popped I miss every day. Would I do it again? I do not think so. It all took very much, to 10,000 kilometers around the 500E on repairs. But in the meantime I'm still if I can buy a coupe to. But then one in good condition. I now have a good network where I can find problems so who knows about a year
