Let me state that this review is limited in scope to test drive and intended to compare experiences

Let me state that this review is limited in scope to test drive and intended to compare experiences. I drove almost all other Tourer versions in tense anticipation of the 225XE and was very curious about the differences and similarities between the front wheel, four-wheel and this quasi-wheel "drive version.

First I noticed how tight and sharp sends this version of the Tourer! Really fantastic for a car that brings about 1,700 kilos on the scale. Compared to the Mercedes C350e that I might drive half years, is a flashy job order or a sharp turn suddenly easy. The Merc was at the same weight - and have more length - a bit 'sluggish' in good English Lower: you felt the butt arrive behind the front and some sturdy maneuver usually accompanied by a "swoosh" sound of the Hancook tires. The XE225 seems that regard or to ride on rails, no 'honor' of the rear steerable as child and no disturbing noises (better tires?). Also, compared to his brothers from the series appeared this version to send the tightest despite the higher weight. In part, that the - in other reviews already celebrated - perfect cooperation between owes the engines and the simulated wheel drive. Furthermore, probably to the low center of gravity and actually better weight distribution in the XE than in the other models: the battery and electric motor behind the almost 50/50 weight distribution.

When you play with the settings it is also possible to switch off the electric motor here and front-wheel-driven to a bend; you actually feel a bit more understeer like a FWD ....

In terms of acceleration can not complain; formally switches the electric motor at 125 km / h, but the acceleration to 150, 160 went so smoothly that I believe that the electric motor optionally still playing sound (unfortunately not in the display looked to see whether this is so). Nothing to add to the other reviews, the interplay between the engine is perfect. And that's when other hybrids sometimes different, I understand.

The chassis is rigid suspension but not uncomfortable. Only short ridges can beat it up. Wondering how the bumpy dirt road to our holiday feel in this car .... Unfortunately it turned inquiring adjustable shock absorbers which are not possible with the hybrid: no space next to the battery and motor.

In my test version, unfortunately, was not active cruise control. I read the other reviewers here about some negative experiences. Also Volvo drivers know / I read it sometimes. I myself have with the Mercedes version of the ACC just very good experience and also from (test drives with) the Mitsubishi Outlander. Braking is done gradually and only hard if someone really right insert for you. Acceleration is gradual. In very heavy traffic can you expect of course that there is more abrupt braking follow a peaceful path, but I will definitely order now the ACC. One of the finest options on longer trips when you could just doze ....

In terms of interior design small chairs covered me and the less than perfect dashboard. Are you going to compare here are in a 5 series, then bathed in opulence, the Tourer is a bit more basic. Incidentally operate very understandable and well, in the hour that I got to drive, I can try and understand almost everything. A compliment deserves hi-fi system in my test version was no Harman-Kardon, but the BMW HiFi and latch itself fantastic bright. The Burmeister from the Mercedes has not stop there.

The only thing I really miss the extra chairs from the 5- and 3-series. It seems that car makers think the smaller models also smaller people ride ;-). Cheaper, okay, maybe thinner, but why so much smaller than in the more expensive models? In that respect, the German brands a little beaten by "fat Germans" (the directors of yore) to "the tighter the better." That used to be no problem, but now my wife and I are middle thick, is slightly softer and more surely fine. Actually I'm with my thighs in place of between the cheeks of the chairs while but I'm of average build. For longer vacation trips seems to be painful. Legroom seems back to people of 180, 185, way too tight. That, and the front seats are the only - but essential - items that could make me decide to go anyway, or a Volvo for a third series. Adieu pretty low aggregation, or ... I wonder what the experiences of other riders with the comfort of the seats, let us know?

Oh yeah, consumption: despite the fact that this car was brand new and I have not spared determined him, I just came to 6.2 l / 100 km. So then I have mixed electric / petrol driven. In comparison, the Mercedes C350e I went on rides Hague-Utrecht vv (120 km) electrically charging once (good for 20 km) at the same average or slightly below, 6.0 / 100. I think not bad. Indeed a Prius seem easy one to pick at 20, but at significantly lower performance and a limited top. Furthermore, a Prius is a lovely comfortable car. It's just what you want.
