I was suddenly discovered that I have not written a review of my current car, however this yet! The short summary: the Renault has established itself as a fine business and family car with the following from notable positives:
- The space and volume storage compartments
- the Bose audio system
- the integrated TomTom
course, there also needs to be addressed :
- the (limited) power in combination with the six-speed gearbox means that sometimes you have to change much
- the problem with 'hunting' or 'galloping' (no smooth power delivery, see later) is apparently difficult to remedy.
And then the long version: I've chosen a few years ago for the Grand Scenic in connection with the space. Privilege version in combination with Alcantara and a panoramic roof in the black color makes a complete car and pretty good looking car (thanks to the many chrome on the Privilege version).
The choice was in motorization (for aggregation choice and diesel requirement) somewhat limited. The 110HP dci is fairly smooth. You come along in quite the traffic, but it is not a speed monster. To be good on the highway with you sometimes change significantly. Consumption was somewhat disappointing, at around 1:16 in many highway traffic (which I often the speed limit to love). 1:20 is fine achievable with a cautious foot and a limited maximum speed (100 km / h). At higher speeds, is of course highly count the temporal tively large frontal area of the Scenic.
The comfort and handling is fine. Both solo and packed with the family and all the stuff + roof box on vacation driving the Renault fine (though you'll notice in the latter case, of course, all the weight).
The reliability is, in principle, OK. That is, I never stopped. Problems have been in the form of a fault by the EGR valve and once emergency operation by a tube leak at the differential pressure sensor of the particulate filter (which was solved in an hour or two). I had more problems with the so-called "hunt" or "galloping". Here you notice that the power output at accelaratie in the higher gears at full throttle (3+) is not uniform. This feels like a typical control problem and seems to be the boost pressure regulator. From about 80,000 km, I had several male affected. The boost pressure control valve has been replaced several times, but it continues to recur about every 30,000 km.
Pleasant companions during the trip are very good Bose system and the TomTom (live). Both make the trip enjoyable. Minor downside I think you need to set the volume separately. Do you have audio nice and hard, you do not hear the tom-tom ..... The "lane assist" option I otherwise do not use. Much more than a few measly beeps when it crosses the lines delivers it on.
In addition to the described extra trips to the garage (EGR valve and differential pressure sensor DPF) has really just routine maintenance performed. I only refilled during running half a liter of oil, then nothing between turns (each 30.000km). I believe I have 5 pairs of worn tires (sorry, not kept exact) and there is no one indicator malfunctioned.
I had a pleasant time with Renault (now almost out of the lease, another week or 4). It's a fine car with a few things. After a year or three, I find driving pretty emotionless / boring (there are few bells and whistles) and everything on it is actually doing a good job without much emotion
Following my Jeep Grand Cherokee began looking for a more economical car, but then a car with a similar level of comfort as such a big American with automatic transmission.
After many test runs with SUVs of all brands, I came by chance go to one Vitara 1.6 Exclusive Auto. After only 5 km drive, I was sold. This car gives you driving feel in a large SUV.
The machine turns at the right moments and very fluent. I have years of experience with machines of all makes and absolutely understand the criticism of a test driver not claiming that this machine does exactly what you do not expect. He switches to economical use and not rallying or speed records.
What I noticed immediately was the quiet engine and excellent handling. On the highway and at a crosswind, you do not or hardly correct. That is remarkable for such a light car with a high carriage.
Parallel parking is very easy. You have a good view and the rear view camera gives an accurate picture.
What is also important is the seating comfort. I'm 1.97 high and there are few cars that are really suitable for my height. This Vitara seems made for tall people. The height and depth adjustable steering wheel to set a optimum seating position. The chair I can then turn quite high without the mirror blocks the view forward. There remains plenty of headroom. (With a retractable roof in the top model is less, but still adequate). The seats provide optimal support, even when cornering.
You read a lot of criticism about the finishing of the interior with hard plastic. However, it bothers me not. It makes the car a bit rugged. Importantly, this car no squeaks or rattles. I have experienced quite different to other brands.
Finally something about consumption: That is extremely economical for a 1600 engine with automatic transmission. I easily 1: 16 achieved, in which more than half of the number of driven km are made in the city.
The reliability is after 600 km is difficult to say something, but this just seems like a very well-built car. Motor it should be alright with Suzuki and it is no stranger engine. I look forward to my long drive to southern Spain this summer!
