After I with my Daihatsu Cuore in a heavy pile alone on the highway due time came to a halt without damage or injury I did not have to drive at least the first week. That was in 2010.
I decided to buy a safer car. When it came to security, I could no longer trust the Cuore. If I ever have an accident then I would sell me expensive. For that reason, I decided that it had to be a big German car. At first I was looking for a Opel Astra, Insignia or Passat. It was something else because nearby stood a neat A4 cars with nap, so I transferred from a dwarf into a giant emotional.
The A4 has a lovely smooth engine and with all the steel around you give it a safe and secure feeling. Road handling is excellent and I got a lot of good comments on the car. Operating costs and consumption were again getting used to but I thought 't worth it. Audi advised to refuel Euro 98 in order to take full advantage of the performance. Well, I live near the Belgian border and it takes a liter of Euro 98 not the main prize. Incidentally, I did not notice any difference if I had tanked Euro 95.
However, I found that the seats had been well worn old for a car of 7 years and have cleaned the air conditioning, which smelled very bad. The guarantee was 3 months. I actually wanted a younger car but the price was right and Audi decided to give it a chance.
After a few months after the guarantee ... the possession of the A4 had a dark side. It all started when the gearbox was not put more smoothly in first gear. I could hear the bearings barns. I also began to notice that the FSI engine lot of oil consumed. I decided at the next maintenance even have to ask. There was even live with.
Shortly afterwards went at breakneck speed wrong, so mileage around 148,000. Reest went all the sensors of the parking lot. But even there I could not live with was the insertion of the first gear and more difficult, which greatly annoyed me.
When I was almost home was burning engine light after a long drive in the same week. Then I went immediately to the Audi garage. I've filed all the complaints and found that the management / control of the camshaft was broken. 1200 euro repair. I had still had other things on the gearbox bearings that should be replaced and the faulty sensors and I came upon a considerable amount. My confidence in the car had fallen to a low point and then I decided to do it by hand. I thought it was not worth investing so much in a now 8-year old car. Remarkably, there were many interested and considering I got just as much in return as I had a year earlier paid for they are very solid value (or popular?). An advantage.
In short, beautiful car, powerful, safe, comfortable, but the build quality I find very disappointing. I feel that Audi / VAG has put down a nice car (with fine materials and ditto image) but fails has investments in the quality subcutaneously. Or I might just have been unlucky? Monday morning a car?
Who knows?
Inquiries with other Audi / A4 / Passat owners and mechanics tells me that I am not the only who has lost faith in the reliability, the FSI engine in particular, Audi / VAG cars. For me, so no more Audi.
