After much deliberation, we have decided in February 2014 to tell our Citroen Xantia 1998 goodbye. I bought in 2007 by around 198,000 on the counter. After purchase, I LPG (prince) built in the meantime that I have arrived at 322,000.
Because the Xantia to a great turn was we did allow for the choice after the turn, there are still some for years to drive, or another occasion. The overhaul would include: new remschijvenen for tires, summer tires, distr. belt replacement, gas filter and algae. overhaul.
Reason to keep him would be that he never let us stand and had been serviced at all in recent years. The only notable flaw was electric. Car plugs were so outdated that it may no longer made good contact. Thus, the blower sometimes fell out (very annoying when the windows are fogged), fog lamps refused service and also the fuse of the cooling fan was once slightly melted (case of the previous owner). Our wish is therefore a younger car (not dried plugs).
Before I went to a show room to watch a C5, I almost read all the reviews on car week about the C5 Tourer. I quickly came to the conclusion that I will like to have a 2.0L 16v petrol version wild with automatic transmission for future reference prince to build LPG.
Because the used cars were at the dealerships at the limit of our budget, we hoped for a private sale. This fortunately came two weeks ago passed. C5 2L vending machine, although almost two tons on the counter, but still fairly young (late 2009) and well within our budget. Immediately we agreed for a test drive and leave him on the bridge at a garage look. For € 30, - this was happening and rear brake pads and heavily soiled engine no or comments.
It was especially km state where we doubted by some, and some declared us crazy. As mentioned earlier, our old car we bought at that time we have never had problems with the same position and properly km engine technology.
But I am aware of the automatic gearbox. At my Xantia I let drain the transmission fluid supplement. Did miracles and I can highly recommend it. But now that there are many on the Internet is the flushing of the machine I'm considering that.
I'm still searching for a good place to carry out this professionally. Tips are welcome!
The first driving experience is fantastic! Note that between the C5 and Xantia is 12 years. The Xantia example, had one star in the NCAP test, the C5 All five (if I remember correctly). Fortunately I have them never needed the Xantia ... and I hope they never have to test the C5.
I do notice that I Xantia harder could 'throw' cornering than the C5. Mini roundabouts I take up high-speed, in winter it that (also on dry roads) less easy than summer tires. But now with the C5 in winter I drive around really at a snail's pace the roundabout because it feels like he can do no more. But may be deceiving. Even with this car I will again follow a training course at a known slip school (I do not know if I can call names ...) in Lelystad. That's me with the Xantia very liked and I learned a lot. Pass by a day slide I know well how the car behaves in unexpected moments.
After purchasing the C5 we are right at the Citroen driven in our city. After about € 780, he was fitted with new oil, brake pads back, filters, air filled and leak checked and ... a new cabinet for the key !!! The buttons were finally worn namely, keep pressing than you can possibly destroy the inside. A new cabinet is € 20, -. An entirely new key (if you demolish the buttons) is soon up to € 150, - I have been told. In short, replace the thing just like the rubber on the button is worn.
All that was discouraged by the dealer was rinsing the machine. This would only be advised of complaints. I believe that I complaints would be right for.
Meanwhile, after a week having driven, I do have some complaints about the machine. Sometimes he turns choppy and difficult return. So I do think there is an indication to flush the gearbox. Given the state of kilometers the car is a necessity I think.
Oh yeah, before I finish. The reason to again take a C5: the hydro-pneumatic system! I want to never live without. Car fully loaded with its own stuff and that of the children. The soil just is not on the ground, you start and he is back with perfect horizontal handling! Also on the skid course performed the Xantia fantastic (despite no abs or other extras). He did the roadside test not inferior to BMW, Mercedes or Audi (who also drove in the group). Powered by a good set of winter tires, but I also felt that the suspension gave great contribution to road grip by braking tests. My expectation is therefore also high on the C5.
Because the C4 system has failed (and other gear), which fell off, although it is a very practical family car. The C6 is still a lot for sale, but is primarily a 3L V6. I find too expensive to maintain and driving, but (especially inside) or a brilliant car. Hybrid cars I've thought about it, but just a little too small or consumption is somewhat disappointing. If I go away for more work (I live next to my job), I'll still installing LPG. But first let's see if the car goes down well in the next few months.
Flushed Away (198 350 km)
2 weeks ago Been path to Lunteren to flush the machine with cleaning of the sump. My expectations were high, because even though he already switched smoothly, I found two things disturbing. 1) with cold engine / gearbox you felt enable him sometimes rougher. 2) at 50km / h, he remained in high gear where the feeling was that the engine did not attract more flavorful. He starts than what fits and jolt as if he begs you to turn it manually to a lower gear or some float want to drive through.
Anyway, done in 3 hours it was flush and they have taught the machine again for me. One problem which could not be solved was that poker is not just hang from his P. I have to push him really right and feel / hear always a sort of 'crack'. It would not be told me in the gearbox. Maybe poker is something against it? Anyone have an idea? The R, N, D and hand it slides smoothly. It's really just to push it aside from its P .... 'crack' .... and then he goes smoothly to the D. Tips about I like to hear!
Anyway, coming back to the machine. Is it getting better? After about 1000km driving experience. No. Still at 50km / h and bump fits and cold start still sometimes a rough circuit. So ... was it worth it? Yes, I think so. I really do believe that the container is maintained better when changing the oil. I do have a good feeling. If he does run in the soup, then let me know :-)
Other criticisms ... after a month of driving pleasure I have to do. First, the cruise control. Who is possessed! What is the point comes when you turn the cruise, for example 50km / h he carried kickdown to increase full throttle to 60km / h ??? All different speeds he does so if you're not driving your input speed. If you come from the highway and you put it at 130 on pause ... you drive into town ... neat 50 ... suggest you now accidentally breaks the cruise button (can relatively easily with all those buttons on the steering wheel). If your foot is not ram you with 100km / h through that facade or bus to the brake pedal. Totally useless that he wants to pull so hard. In addition, if consumption today is such an issue, why not cruise attracts a little relaxed on? Some fuel saving again you might think. I have meanwhile noticed that this car slurps. Did I expected a little, but secretly I was hoping it would be OK. Flushing is a car not unfortunately economical. Maybe I should double-check the tire pressure, but I'm afraid that it is good. And inflate to 3bar make it I do not think much more economical ... and maybe some bad weather for the band. 2.5 has to be the max.
Yet another point on the cruise (now i'm really on a roll). The Xantia throttle was pushed to the speed at which the cruise was set. That does not C5. That's a loss. Now you may brake off by switching off the cruise because you do not know how far you should depress the accelerator pedal to maintain that speed (I explain to understand a little off?)
Next point: the steering wheel. I get this really not in a position that I can see good all warning lights on the dashboard. By 1.86 I'm not particularly long, but the steering is too low for these lights. The steering drive higher unnatural makes less that I can not read more speed. I will therefore only assume that there are no warning lights come on ...
The navigation like it. Doing it fast and easy to read. Also nice that you can see it for yourself at your speedometer which way to go. However, I think you have the SD card required to use navigation. There is no hard disk in the radio system for music (I have the myway version). Who comes up then you can put the music on an SD card so that he can read it? Do I have the navigation CD burning so that it continues to do so (which incidentally can not) ?? Really nonsensical. What was the trouble to also create a USB input on the myway system ?? For a car a mockery 2009. So again old CDs in the car.
Driving (after habituation) or pleasant. He springs louder than the Xantia (though the seats it has also become much softer after 16 years). The Xantia I could throw harder by turns (especially mini roundabouts noticeable) and the c5 able to bring the feel of the road bad about on the wheel. But he light firmly on the road and I feel always in total control. Incidentally, I have not experienced emergency braking (yet). Maybe I change still believes.
The engine hums quite audible in the car. Not disturbing, but not softly. The machine was however allowed to have extra gear. Now he makes quite a lot of speed on the highway. Why not just a container 6 instead of 4 as with a V6? Also saves fuel anyway?
For now I'm counting each time you refuel if it has been profitable to build LPG, if only to distract me from the petrol price.
2 years later ... like new (236.000 km)
Like new again? Yes! In recent years he has been to the approved dealer for service in my hometown. Lot of money spent at every turn, but never really the desired result. Thus the problem was to take him without resistance from its parking position unresolved. Replacement of fluids of hydraulics and gearbox were discouraged (as long as there is no interference ... not arrive was the motto), it was after reading the car replaced a height regulator URL and battery. I also have had costs for a new windshield and Paravan (inflated by a madman with fireworks), the installation of a new air pump (very sad for your wallet) and because of the 20.000km / year I still LPG (I found a nice deal on Groupon for prince LPG).
Last month I found out that he had become quite thirsty engine oil, almost a liter 15.0000km. I was not used to my xantia, so better get to the same garage to put my Xantia in the past had made new again. This is in Vught (Youngtimer garage ... I can name names on this site?). At my request to move him at all after is completely gone. After delivery I received a call the same day that he engaged not so good (I thought this as heard), and the engine did not sound as nice (and I was always so nice to him quietly). I received him back after two days and incredible. If he comes out of the showroom. The amounts were still so bad to me. Engine oil is significantly cheaper than
by replacement of hydraulics fluid he sends back very smoothly. The suspension is now a lot less stiff and new spark plugs and some additive in the gasoline engine does sound better. I breathe in the car fresh / healthy air now replaced all filters (old were jet black, and so filthy ... apparently never replaced too). Now is the parking position, problem solved by replacing a relay URL of a few euros. I do not know why the lemon car that does not know ... Moreover, the garage in Vught dived deeper into the history of the car and was able to tell me that lemon car in Aalsmeer has kept him quite extensively (they even have the gearbox flushed at 140,000). Apparently there is so big difference between one brand and another garage.
The latter in turn is again replaced the gearbox oil and what a difference. I'm really not switch him now. In short, I am now a very happy lemon rider who's been pretty happy with the car. All I still miss another gear for the highway due to high speed. From this perspective I would advise everyone to still go for the 3 liter version. When the garage is reset the gearbox and otherwise set by equally tough to drive. I notice that he turns slightly more comfortable with roundabouts and the city. Occasionally I myself must therefore anything spicier drive to keep it that way.
Anyway. Overall, I am very satisfied. I've had some bad luck with the air conditioning and LPG was a lot of money (but hey ... your choice). Furthermore, it is an excellent touring car still quite a few years I can guess. Or hereafter I again choose a lemon? Maybe ... if they keep word that there will be a good successor for the spring system instead of the steel Wokkel. It will then likely to be a 2nd handsje (as it was). Preferably one that has not been dealer maintained :-)
