When you think of Africa, you probably think of animals, tribal and national parks

This photo was taken in North India. We slept in the cozy house of a man who only lived most of the year. His wife and children lived in the "big" city, half a day's drive away. We were tired of the cold and walking that day and almost fell asleep to the wonderful warmth that came from the cooking of the food. Already at eight o'clock it was bedtime and we retreated to our bedroom. But first went to the toilet outside ... so ;-). Usually a hut is an end away which is built around a deep pit. So I pulled my warm clothes and went off to the toilet. And then you do one step out the door and look at the sky. There you see what you see on the picture. Fantastic!
Since we should be happy in the Netherlands when what we see stars in the sky on a cloudless night, many people think that it's a myth that you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye. Nothing is less true. Here is the evidence :-). The Milky Way is today to see the day often difficult because of light pollution. In places where to find light, so you can still see fine the Milky Way. Think populous and vast areas of mountains, steppes and deserts. Countries such as Mongolia, Russia, Tibet, northern India are ideal.

Fotografietip Do you want to put the Galaxy in the picture? Please bring a tripod and set your camera to the slowest shutter speed. If you do not have a tripod, you should also do the trick with a little creativity with a stone. Because of this you should be able to capture enough light to get what you see in this picture. The trees I briefly illuminated with a flashlight, do not do this, then keep this a lot darker. Although you do not need an SLR, you'll need a camera where you can manually control settings. So go sit on your back in the grass and enjoy a good conversation under a breathtaking starry sky!

Ethiopia is certainly not the first destination that comes to mind, while it more than worth it! Just when you prefer something a little more authentic and adventurous destinations. Why Ethiopia is worth considering? Well, do so!

Wonderfull nature.
You do not expect in Ethiopia right? I thought at least that Ethiopia is 90% gort- and dry cave. Think again! Certainly runs in the North where one of the largest mountain ranges in Africa, it is a large part of the year super green. This part is called the Simien Mountains and is really so breathtakingly beautiful! You can make treks of several days on the road where you will camp surrounded by nature. A little adventurous there you have to be, but I'm sure you will not regret. Very cool!


Authentic people & culture.
It is clear that Ethiopia is not overflowing with tourists. The downside of this is that virtually nothing is arranged for tourists. Whether it comes to public transport, eateries or guides; it may be some hassle. The delicate lace Ethiopia is in its rawness feels so wonderfully pure and authentic. I just love it from, your journey is still extra special.

Gelada baboon.
In Ethiopia live a fantastic baboons native species: the gelada baboon. I think this picture speaks for itself ;-). What an imposing beast say so! In the Simien Mountains walking around there really thousands. They live in large groups and you can circle all the way at once. No fear. They do not, at some digging in the soil after. This baboon species is unique to Ethiopia, and can therefore only see there.

Particular form of Christianity.
I think it's always nice and interesting to see how people live in a completely different country religion. In Ethiopia, the North is the Coptic Christian tradition. You notice about all; Everyone wears a wooden cross around, you will find churches in the strangest places and the rock churches of Lalibela are a true pilgrimage for Ethiopians themselves. Special to see!

I'm not sure I've persuaded ;-), but if you find another destination in Africa, then surely even think of Ethiopia. It will not be very relaxing or traditional trip, but the country will remain in a special way in! Does it seem to you that or not at all?
